As soon as I saw that picture up there, I thought, "Oh, I bet those are capers, too". ;~)

Hehehe.
I Think it's delicious with anchovies and capers.
Perfect combination with a lemon twist.

I'll have to expand my horizons someday...

Anchovies are somewhat related to the herring.
Here we eat a lot of herring.
Herring fried directly on the red-hot iron stove is called "Sotare" (Chimney man) because of the smoke when frying them.
In Britain they eat kippers that is smoked herring.
We call it "böckling".

As long as the herrings are not red..

The meat is red as salmon but not the herring itself.

This is not a Red Herring:)

You missed My point, as in a red herring, not a fish in this case.

Anyone eat anything lately?

Last night I made Nicoise Salads for dinner and served them with an unoaked chardonnay.

Tonight we felt like having dessert for dinner so I made crepes filled with Nutella, topped with raspberries that had been tossed in a bit of Chambord. On top of that I put a bit of sweetened whipped cream and some chocolate shavings. Gee, I wonder why I never lose any weight...

Impressive. I had spaghetti.

I wish I had the money for that...

I make a cheap spaghetti sauce that lasts for days. I'm pretty
sure I've posted the "recipe" here. I eat spaghetti when I don't
have enough money for other types of food - the type that normal
people who have money eat. I'm talking about things like pork
chops and chicken and beef and that sort of thing.

Hey, kiddo.
Don't cut spaghetti short./
That is my 'comfort food' of choice.
I often have it late at night to fill my belly and help me to sleep.
Years ago, when I had more than enough to drink and stomach problems cut in, my
GF of the time knew what to do....cook up a box of spaghetti, and it would put me right every time.

Wonder if al dente let it act like a sponge and soak up the excess drink?

It's also My comfort food too, of course I'd be lucky if it did last more than 2 days.

I once ate a LOT of spaghetti at 2 AM when I was about to cycle 300 kilometers around Lake Vättern at 3 AM.
It didn't get me sleepy until 1 PM.

Eric grew up in Wisconsin during a time when dinner was generally over-cooked meat, tired potatoes and some disgusting vegetable that came out of a can. It has been a challenge for me to change Eric's palate, but we eat vegetarian at least twice a week and sometimes up to four times a week. Vegetarian food is not necessarily low calorie if it involves cheese, nuts, whole milk, butter and/or eggs, but vegetarian food is relatively low cost... and delicious.

Tonight, for example, we are having "nibbles" for dinner - roasted nuts (almonds, pecans and walnuts done without added fat or salt), a platter of crudite from our garden and a plate of vegetarian stuffed mushrooms. I filled the mushrooms with a sauteed minced shallot, the sauteed minced stems from the mushrooms I filled, a splash of sherry, some grated Gruyere cheese, salt, pepper, a little minced parsley and thyme from my herb patch, a bit of butter and some breadcrumbs. Baked, they are delicious and Eric will never miss the meat. Add a glass of vino and I'm a happy camper.

For dinner last night we had pasta tossed with a pesto sauce that I made from basil that we grew in our garden. I threw in some roasted potatoes. Sometimes I throw in green beans as well, but I didn't have any in the garden or fridge yesterday. I topped each serving with some grated Parmigiano Reggiano cheese and some chopped roasted walnuts. Sometimes I top the dish with roasted pine nuts, but I used the last of them in the pesto and didn't want to go to the store. The walnuts were just as good. Again, Eric never missed the meat.

I just have the same old, same old food, cauliflower, broccoli, carrots, pepper and fishsticks, today being warm I wish I could get something cold, but I have to wait. Oh well.

Hmm But why serve your dish with potatoes?
I would serve it with LOTS of pomodoro (tomatoes) and some pasta:)

Eric hates tomatoes. The tomatoes I grow in our garden are for me and to share with my neighbors who do not like to garden.

Green beans and roasted potatoes mixed with pesto/pasta is not an atypical mix for US citizens of northern Italian descent. I know it is starch on starch, but it is delicious.

I like tomatoes, and avocados, preferably not rotting, tomatoes are easy to tell, avocados shouldn't be black, bypass them if they are, they will have brown spots in the green area under the skin indicating they are rotting...

The Avocado is the official fruit of the state of California...
