Message 1607355 - Posted: 30 Nov 2014, 19:01:30 UTC - in response to Message 1607344.

I am physically disabled and I'm not rich, My car is not 4 wheel drive, paved roads don't go everywhere and since in 2015 I'll be getting $889.40 a month, that doesn't allow much, so please, stop...

$889.40 a month :(
Here in Scandinavia you cant live with that.
In order to get housing, food and cloths you need twice as much.
What is happening to the USA?
Oops politically views...

Often there are other sources of hidden income. Sometimes food, medical care and housing if not fully paired for is paid for in part. My great aunt is living on far less but because of her medical condition, she has almost no expenses. We have a very generous welfare program but the big problem is people who have taken care of themselves all their life often don't know how to access it. People who have lived with it all their life don't have a reason to starve.

I have been accused of that twice, I presented a years worth of bank records to the SSA after each unfounded allegation by the IRS, both the IRS and SSA can look into My bank account, I still get only My benefits, some don't like that I own My own home, a car, that I'm online, that I VOTE, that I think for Myself and that I don't buy into conservative/reactionary garbage...

As posted in another Thread, (to commiserate with Vic), I posted my SSDI income and expenses. I take in $1,038.00 per month from SSDI. Just over half goes to Medicare expenses to keep me insured. The rest; under $500.00 is spent on car insurance, medical co-pays for prescriptions, (I have 12 medicines that I'm on), and credit card debt from other misc. expenses, including gas, maintenance, and DMV fees for the car, and Vonage for the year.

Because of my limited funds, and the way they are spent; I keep anywhere from $20 to $50 a month, (varies by expenses), to myself. So, because I cannot afford to pay rent and food costs, (not to mention utilities and waste management fees), I am unable to live on my own. So, I'm living with my parents. If something happens to them, I don't know where I will live.

Your great aunt has a lot of expences! Not only housing and food but also a medical condition. That cost a lot. In US you have to pay twice as much for this than most western countries!

I pay My bills, buy food, replace and repair things and taxes like everyone else, more than some do in this country. However I don't pay income taxes as My income is not taxable... Next month I have a $100 payment(out of $200 total) in property taxes to pay for, then in April I have the 2nd half to pay for and I'm not complaining, as the taxes pay for a lot of local stuff, like TV signals and roads.

My great aunt could be googled and she would turn up a large number of hits. She has had schizophrenia most likely for the last 60 years and she refuses to take medication for her condition. For almost all that time she has been a ward of the state. She was allowed to live by her self but the state covered all her living expenses with the exception of a couple of hundred dollars she receives from a teacher pension. I am very aware of the financial details of her life because she is unable to care for her self (medical issues) and we need to get her into a location where she can receive additional help(against her will}. She has been in and out of the hospital hundreds of times over the years. We know that from her meager income she had accumulated over $10,000 which would take years even if she didn't spend a penny of her cash. Yes, I do know what I am talking about and have seen it first hand.
We have a very large social safety net in this country but I don't blame you for not knowing about it. Most of what we hear about it is from people who are living off it and think we aren't providing a comfortable living.

...cactus fruit taste pretty bad unless you add a bunch of something sweet.

Prickly Pear Cactus Fruit Margaritas

3/4 cup prickly pear cactus fruit juice
(It takes 4-5 fruits, depending on the size - cut ripe fruit open, ream and strain... juice is a little viscous, but it is easily extracted from the fruits)
1/2 cup fresh lime juice
1/4 cup superfine sugar
large pinch of salt

Mix above ingredients and let sit in fridge for a couple of hours

Meanwhile... chill in a pitcher

1 cup tequila - reposado
3/4 cup triple sec
1/4 cup Grand Marnier

When your mother-in-law visits or you have some other occasion to drink, stir juice mixture into tequila mixture.

Ideally, serve in salted margarita glasses over shaved ice. Can also be served in "normal" glasses, on the rocks.

Makes a beautiful magenta colored beverage... and it tastes good too!

Vodka
Triple Sec
And lime juice

This is called a "Kamikaze".

Fried Pepper Rings! - works with other veggies too (Especially Asparagus)

Bowl 1 - Flour
Bowl 1.2 - Add Baking Powder, Salt, Eggs, and Milk to the Flour
Bowl 2 - Bread Crumbs (Panko works best)

Heat Oil in a skillet. Slice Peppers into rings and dip in "Bowl 1". Add ingredients to make "Bowl 1.2" and dip the Peppers. Then dip Peppers in "Bowl 3" and cook in the oil for about 3-4 minutes. I feel like Ranch is a safe dip.

Shortly after I joined the Army I was sent to the Defense Language Institute
in Monterey, California. There was a club on post for soldiers, and I went
there more than I should have. In that club I could drink alcohol, in spite
of being only 19 years old. I didn't like the taste of alcohol, so one night
I went there with someone who told me just a little about a Singapore Sling.
He told me it didn't taste like alchohol and he was right. What he didn't
tell me was how much alcohol was in it. I had three of them.

We were sitting in a little area that was raised above the main floor,
requiring us to climb three steps to get up there. After I drank my three
Singapore Slings we got up to leave. I promptly tripped down the first two
steps! I didn't fall. I just stumbled like a drunk! I stopped, pulled myself
together, and promptly tripped down the third step!

I can't say I never drank another Singapore Sling, but I was more careful
after that.

Lynchburg Lemonade is sneaky too.

One part JD
One part Tripple Sec
One part Sweet and Sour
Four parts of Sprite/7 Up

Need to take a pic of that jug we made it in, with the deceptive label Lemonade.

Sierra Mist Natural is made with real cane sugar; not corn syrup like Sprite and 7Up.

Just my two cents...

I've tasted Sierra Mist, frankly I don't like it that much, but then I didn't like 7up all that much either, though Sprite was different, My 1st encounter with Sprite was on a US Army base, though if one really wants a non cola type soda, maybe Canada Dry? I've had all 4, today I don't drink any sodas, except Pepsi's Mountain Dew and then only very rarely.
