Interesting comparison. I like blueberries, but I have never had, say, blueberry
pie, or blueberries cooked like cranberries as a sauce. I don't think I've ever had blueberry jam
(although I believe I have had blueberry jelly). I couldn't
say whether I'd like them that way or not. I have only had blueberries in
things like muffins and scones. I've never "felt" the peel when eating those
foods.

Blueberry is my favorite fruit pie, but I have to remember that it will come through on rather short notice sometime during the next day.

My Nephew likes Cherry and I like Apple, though I'll eat almost any pie.

I don't have anything again most fruit pies. It's just that blueberry is my favorite.

When I was a kid, I loved my grandmother's cherry pie. She had a cherry tree right outside the kitchen window.

Blueberries are also mine favorite.
Especially when picked from the forest where they have all the flavours.
I like them with some milk:)

I think the first Cherry trees were a gift from Japan to the USA, I had cherries last night on the green jello and cream cheese salad with almonds...

Eating a fruit pie is good because you're getting some
fruit. (This is what I tell myself so I don't feel guilty
eating pie.)

I can get fruit and berries for free if I a walk about 1 mile to the forest.
Silly me not to do that this year.

I have to agree with you on this one Vic.
I can walk in to any Wal-Mart and get several kinds of fresh fruit. But walk out my front door. I'm starving.
It is nice to live near the fresh edibles.

My income is very limited and that's a state park with an admittance fee of $6, like just a shade less than $890 a month, so forget it.

Admittance fee to a state park?
In our country its written in the Constitution that we all have free access to the nature! Yes you can even pick berries and mushrooms on other peoples land.
There is no such thing as trespassing.
It's called Allemansrätt (Freedom to roam lit. "the everyman's right")
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freedom_to_roam

But what about cactus fruits. Is it illegal to pick them in the desert?

Cactus grow in a limited areas and yes, it is illegal to pick the fruit without the government's permissions. Cactus reproduce so slow a few generations of picking could wipe them out. On the other hand, cactus fruit taste pretty bad unless you add a bunch of something sweet. Most of the picking is done by native americans and is permitted because it's a traditional food supply.
On the other hand, with a little care and a bunch of water you can have all the citrus you could want. Citrus was one of the requirements of my new house. This is the year I should see the trees start bearing fruit.

The fee helps to maintain the parks, taxes require a 2/3rds vote to increase and that would be opposed by some, so a fee is charged instead of using tax money from the general fund. It's not worth going to by Myself, I barely get enough now and one guy in Congress wants to cut SSI checks by 31% nationwide, why? For $400 Billion in Corporate Tax cuts...

On Cactus, there are none around here, this is a high desert, the area can get cold enough for snow.

Here in Scandinavia you cant live with that.
In order to get housing, food and cloths you need twice as much.
What is happening to the USA?

Often there are other sources of hidden income. Sometimes food, medical care and housing if not fully paired for is paid for in part. My great aunt is living on far less but because of her medical condition, she has almost no expenses. We have a very generous welfare program but the big problem is people who have taken care of themselves all their life often don't know how to access it. People who have lived with it all their life don't have a reason to starve.

Your great aunt has a lot of expences! Not only housing and food but also a medical condition. That cost a lot. In US you have to pay twice as much for this than most western countries!
