Obesity is complicated, not all forms are from bacteria, there is food intake, depression combined with food, ones energy level, there is surgery that can make obesity more likely to happen, beyond that I have no idea, so I'll stop there. As to how I became obese or fat(there I said it), that happened in late 2002, I started gaining more weight, I was already depressed. As to getting rid of the weight, that isn't as easy as some people think, in My case My left ankle puts a crimp into any loss, that ankle was disturbed to insert 3 titanium screws, in 2002 about $15,000.00 worth, they are now a part of Me and I do have the scars to go along with it and I had no professional rehab, so My left ankle has less flexibility than My right, the only reason I can bend My left leg now is cause I slowly made the ankle to be able to move again so that My left foot could lay on its left side while I was in bed, just after surgery this was impossible to do, this took time to accomplish and that's all the rehab I've ever had, to this day if I walk or stand for too long the ankle will start hurting, though before surgery I'd never had a problem, this was cause I'd broken the lower part of My left leg back in 2002.

Sorry Vic, I didn't post that to rile people up. With obesity it can more than likely help that in the future. I think though it could greatly help to controlling diabetes.

That's ok Sirius B, you're forgiven. In any case My post is really independent of yours, there are some people that some call regressives who like to attack. No I don't think you're that. You wouldn't have apologized if you were.

I posted it because of the bad news I received on my tests. Doc pretty certain that I'm type 2 & also showing grave concern over my weight...

...now down to 97lbs & if any more lost in the next month, he's booking me into hospital. :-(

I'm sorry to hear of that Sirius B. I'm at least not diabetic, why? I don't know. Good luck.

Thanks guys. Had a pretty good idea that I was type 2 after several incidents some time ago. My main concern though is the weight loss. Just under 1.25 stone lost in under 2 months is worrisome.

Well done to all the folks working at it. It is a great investment in your future.

In the last 20 months I've gone from around 105kgs (230lbs) to now under 87kgs (191lbs) with a goal of 84kgs (185lbs) by October - mainly by riding a push bike and only a small amount of being careful of what I eat. When I get to 84kgs I'll be the same weight I was in my mid 20's (over 20 years ago). Ideally I'm heading for 78kgs (170lbs). The main problem with loosing weight is not just having to replace clothes that are now way too big, but feeling the cold during winter.

I hit a plateau at 88kgs for about 6 weeks but have now (hopefully) broken through it. Will know tomorrow when I do my weekly weigh in and then head out for a short burst of High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT), which is not to be confused with Some High Intensity Training. I have been accused of doing a large/big amount of Some High Intensity Training before.

Riding a bike is low impact and great for old or stressed joints and allows for a good social work out if you can find some friends to ride with.

Regards to all,

Paul.

ps. haven't been around much but in doing a general nosey parker on the boards came across this thread and had to contribute.

Don't I wish!!! I think I get the award here for the slowest weight loss ever.

Still, the accountability factor combined with the kind support I'm getting from all the lovely posters here is at least keeping me from gaining weight. It has been the slow and steady creep of about a three pound weight gain a year that made me a pudgy little raccoon in the first place.

Why does food have to be so delicious???!!! I subscribe to four magazines - all are about cooking and/or entertaining. The recording device on our tv is full of "Eric shows", "Angela shows" and "Shows we watch together". All the "Angela shows" are about cooking. My favorite weekend activity is going to the Farmer's Market. I'm starting to learn more about canning. Food, food, food, food, food!

I'm impressed Angela! Well done - holiday times are VERY hard to get through without boinging back up the scales. You've done brilliantly!! :)

@Paul :) Very nice to meet you :) Congratulations too on the weight loss! That's a l-o-o-o-ng plateau :( - well done for getting through it! It's one of the most depressing things that dieters face and the biggest cause of dieting failure... it's just our bodies are so super efficient at screaming "famine" every time they see a crispbread and little else for any length of time... and with muscle weighing more than fat... it's a wonder anyone gets through those long stretches.

@Sirius - sorry to hear you're not well :( Do hope things improve for you soon!

@Blurf - love the dog walking harness for wheelchair users! My brother in law doesn't have a dog... but my sister and her children really want a dog... *plot starts forming in anniet's head* It's his birthday at the end of September... a dog walking harness would make such a lovely present don't you think? :)
