Pudgy Little Raccoon Weigh-In #2
167.6 pounds (AKA 76 kg; 22.08 g)

Pudgy Little Raccoon Weigh-In #3
166.4 pounds (AKA 75 kg; 477.8 g)

Pudgy Little Raccoon Weigh-In #4
165.2 pounds (AKA 74 kg; 933.45 g)

Net weight loss to date 3.0 lbs. (AKA 1 kg; 360.78 grams)

Eric has not noticed any weight loss yet, though to be fair a three pound loss across the course of a month should not be all that noticeable.

This week I will need to pass through a veritable gauntlet of over-eating opportunities. Thursday is Eric's birthday. Friday is our country's Independence Day - a national holiday. Saturday is a family birthday party for one of my nephews. Sunday is an afternoon tea celebration that I host each year honoring my aunts.

My plan is to be a very, very, very good raccoon today, tomorrow and Wednesday and then just hope for the best next Monday.

What's the maxim... slow but steady wins the race. You're doing really well Angela! :) Looking at the week ahead - yes, it does resemble something of a diet minefield - but for the loveliest of reasons... and I think your plan is a very sound one! The occasional 4 days in an oasis whilst traversing a desert is not a bad tonic for the spirits either :) Good luck!

I was losing weight, until I went back on pancakes cause I was running low on whole powdered eggs, asap I'll be buying another 2.25lb can for $24.28 and that's with $4.99 for UPS shipping in a day or two.

Don't despair, Vic. Just maintaining a weight loss is an accomplishment. You've lost 46 pounds and if you keep those pounds off long term that is a big deal! And dude, don't blame the pancakes too much. You're a tall man and so there is a lot of "wiggle room" in your caloric allotment each day.

Maintain? I gained, I'm now 390lbs... That's 6lbs of room. I need to buy three more cans more non-stick spray soon, margarine is doing that right now.

Thanks Angela. Its not easy, a load of exercise combined with portion control and a massive reduction in mid-meal nibbles.
Great thing with portion control is that things like a pack of pasta lasts longer, several meals longer :-)

(But with all the extra walking I'm doing trainers won't last as long....)

Before I forget it, I better mention that Vons had a Free BMI and weight check machine there, it was Free, so it said My BMI was 50.5 and the weight was 383lbs, so maybe the scale here is off by a few pounds, maybe. I'm beat, lots of work shopping for food this morning and the temp outside is 105F with worse yet to come...

Vic, were you able to purchase any fresh vegetables or fruits in all of that heat?

It's now 111F/44C in downtown Aardvark, er Yermo California, 5qts survived the trip, but then it was only 96F out when I came home from the store, My freezer has 6lbs of veggies, 105 fishsticks and slowly vanishing Strawberry Swirl ice cream.

@ Angela: No, it's 12 miles to town across the desert. I'd have to store it all in the refrigerator or buy canned fruit and eggs are bad enough. So I don't.

Looks like I average about 6300 steps, which is about 2.4 miles(I'm actually amazed by that). I really need to "step" it up. I lead such a life of routine, my steps rarely go up except on the one day a week I go up to an old railroad bridge to walk.

I'm walking 7.5 km or more nearly every day.

That is great. I used to walk probably double or triple what I do now, back when I used public transportation. My car made me lazy, and having a sedentary job doesn't help, either.

It's hard though, being the middle of winter and my predisposition to being totally lazy. :-)
I'm heading out now. Thank Marbooker for TV tuners with PVR.

Vic, I think Angela made a good suggestion of sensible additions to your diet. What is the problem with storing fresh fruit and vegetables in a fridge?

I buy My veggies frozen, for $1.99 for a 1lb package, all I need to do is dump them into a corning ware 2-3qt dish, put the lid on and heat them the first time for 7.5 minutes in the microwave oven, reheating takes 2.5 minutes each time.

Ehow tip:
Keep vegetables whole if you are storing them for more than a day or two. Use most vegetables within one week of storing.

Read more : http://www.ehow.com/how_7717056_store-fruits-vegetables-fridge.html

I go shopping once a month, since I burn about $4 worth of gasoline each time I go shopping, $4 of gas is 1 US Gallon, multiply that by 4 trips, that's an extra $12 a month, I'll pass, besides each trip to the store puts another 25 miles on the odometer, which means more wear and tear, since I have an obsolete car that Ford does not make parts for anymore, nor does Ford have to by law after 8 years, My car is 15 years old.

Ehow tip:
Place fruits in the fresh fruit compartment of the fridge. Set the refrigerator temperature to 37 degrees Fahrenheit.

Read more : http://www.ehow.com/how_7717056_store-fruits-vegetables-fridge.html

I find it very hard to get the refrig down to 37F here, the best I've ever done is about 40F, too high for storage, so I don't buy fruits and I'd have to go shopping once a week and that can hurt Me in other areas financially and I'd have to do maintenance to the car sooner than currently needed, I don't relish $105.00 an hour to diagnose the broken a/c under the dash when there may be no parts to fix the problem with anymore, a replacement drivers seat is $278 and that doesn't include swapping needed bits from the broken seat to the replacement seat. Ford is only obligated to make parts for 8 years by law, so 2003+8yrs is 2011 and it's now mid 2014... The Escort zx2 was last made here in 2003 in the US.

Fresh vegetables can be expensive and hard to store, especially if you are single and don't need so many.

If you have a freezer, try to buy bags of frozen veg. They will keep longer and you only need to cook the portion you need at the time. They actually hold their vitamins longer than fresh veg! Its easy to steam them in the microwave and should help you keep in budget.

I've been buying frozen veggies and cooking in the microwave for years, I have 6lbs in the freezer now(in 6 bags of 16oz each), plus frozen fishsticks, burger buns, 5 loaves of bread and some ham steak that I'm not sure how to cook. My freezer is part of an 18cuft energy star type refrigerator, with the lion share going to the refrig, which leaves less than 1/3rd for the freezer.

That makes sense, Vic, considering your distance from stores and being in the desert. As long as you are getting your 5 portions of fruit and veg a day it doesn't matter how you get them.

Now if there is some way you can figure out how to add more exercise to your day then you'd be doing much better!
