Turn off the AC, and office buildings would become uninhabitable, vehicles sitting in traffic would become torture chambers, apartment buildings would become death traps. It is NOT about 'per capita "pollution"'. It is about TOTAL greenhouse gas emissions. Period. It does not matter WHO did the emissions... Only that the emissions happened. If you are SERIOUS about solving GHG-ACC, there is one, and only one, solution. Massive, immediate population reduction combined with drastic standard-of-living reductions for ALL of the 1 to 3 million (global) survivors down to the hunter-gatherer level. That is IT. No other choice. Sorry, but building a few solar panels and wind turbines ain't gonna do squat. It is more than just the 'fossil fuel revolution' that must be undone. It is more than just the industrial revolution that must be undone. The agricultural revolution must be undone as well. It seems to me that many of your posts are just USA bashing. Please stop. Surely you have bigger fish to fry at home... I just noticed that your new PM (May) just gave your government's climate change department the sack, folding what little will remain of it into an industrial policy department. Perhaps you need to be more concerned with that and not so concerned about how people in the USA have Air Conditioning. https://youtu.be/iY57ErBkFFE #Texit Don't blame me, I voted for Johnson(L) in 2016. Truth is dangerous... especially when it challenges those in power. |

It seems to me that many of your posts are just USA bashing. Please stop. Why, when you deserve it. The per capita emissions by the US are way to high and also one of China's biggest customers, along with Europe I will add, then don't you think that much of China's emissions are down to the goods we import from there. So besides actually making a lot of the pollution and greenhouse gasses the US also exports some of its pollution and greenhouse gasses to China and other countries. The US is the worlds biggest importer, only just bigger than Europe, but with only 60% of the population. So The US is the biggest polluter in the world by most standards and by far when you do it per capita. Stop bashing the US about Global Warming, not yet, maybe if and when the US decides to consider Global Warming a very serious threat. And that's not going to happen until the GOP gets out of government or changes its mind on the subject, I'm not holding my breath. |

Well there's your problem all the oil producing countries. You need to broaden your bashing list. ;^) List of countries by carbon dioxide emissions https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_carbon_dioxide_emissions Qatar - 39.13 Kuwait - 28.33 United Arab Emirates - 21.3 Oman - 18.92 Australia - 17.3 Saudi Arabia - 16.8 United States - 16.5 Canada - 15.9 Kazakhstan - 14.2 Russia - 12.4 South Korea - 12.3 -- United Kingdom - 6.5 ... ... |

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_carbon_dioxide_emissions Where is Glenn? Leading the USA in greenhouse gas?! Now can we stop bashing and realize MK is correct. Every country past the mid-point on that list has to reduce its population to zero to have an actual impact. @jan - Islands likely have to burn shipped in dirty coal/oil to make electric power. They won't have hydro power. They may, or may not have solar possibility as many islands create a lot of cloud by upsetting the winds. As to wave/tide many are surrounded by coral reefs, which must not be damaged. Wind might be possible, but shipping the turbines might be too expensive. |

But you do have to take into consideration that there are "farm lands" that are no good at all to grow crops on, but by using large areas can be used for raising animals. Only about 36% of agricultural land in the UK is suitable for crops. unless you prove that animals eat only of those which is grown on other surfaces...your point is pointless! right now we make food, to give to farm animals, to eat farm animals...not sure if you're aware of that?! :/ non-profit org. Human population size is a problem. India will surpass China in about 10 to 15 years as the most populous country in the world. But in China the population will also decline in about 30 years from now. https://twitter.com/aronstrandberg/status/760313493727870976 The one child policy seems to work pretty fast. At very least a two child policy would help a lot. |

Human population size is a problem. Education to ALL, especially women, will help even faster... How do we improve all our cultures to give better education and better stability so that there is no need for large families...? And then how do we re-educate economists to work with zero growth rate rather than contriving perpetual growth unto an inevitable disastrous crash?... Human population size is a problem. it's shown that Serbia policy on Kosovo was all wrong, by putting more & more police in a state...until it collapsed under a population policy of Albanians in Kosovo! it would be easier to put a 2-3 factories there & give people some money...when they got money, they can have gadgets & cars...they want to travel the World...they want to prosper & they know how! same thing is happening in China...lots of young couples don't have children or don't want more than 1 child...so that the accumulated goods don't spill on many fronts...couples want new cars, iPhone's, travel the World, etc...so no need for 1 child policy (which was deleted some time ago)! ;) non-profit org. WP - The 10 most startling facts about climate in 2015 — the warmest year on record Last year was unequivocally the warmest year on record for Earth. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Tuesday released a 300-page report documenting the historic warmth as well as scores of other aspects of 2015’s climate. (downloadable >100MByte) 1. The global temperature was the highest on record. |

Education to ALL, especially women, will help even faster... But it may not be fast enough. And then how do we re-educate economists to work with zero growth rate rather than contriving perpetual growth unto an inevitable disastrous crash?... Not economists, but Wall Street Brokers and Capitalists. The myth that quarter over quarter profits must go up 10% and the only way to get the growth is more consumers. Oh the growth is required because of inflation. Inflation is the result of government deficit spending. So maybe it is the spend and not pay for it politicians that really need the education. Oh wait, they are the ones spending on "green" solutions. |

Solutions ??? : If the climate were actually changing for the worse there is nothing that we could do to change it other than to move North (or way South) into the vast lands that are now under-populated, and barely habitable due to frigid conditions. We will not be able, nor willing to stop man's tiny contribution to CO-2 or all of the more serious pollutants if in fact man is the cause of the putative "warming" in the first place. So I say, Move North, build seawalls or wait until the climate and solar cycles swing back around to a "Change" for the cooler (Brrr). More good run-on sentences from Daddio, je m'excuse |

So I say, Move North, build seawalls or ... Or... Cut out all the corrupt pollution or laugh at the wars of mass migration?... Boarders be damned or are you voting Trump and BIG GUNS?... Or we could just usurp the fossil fuels pollution sooner rather than later and go clean and green... Which way do the accountants and established business vote?... This is a long awaited small start to much bigger generation: Shetland turbines at Bluemull Sound connected to grid ... Tidal energy specialist Nova Innovation said they were the first offshore tidal turbines in the world to deliver electricity to the grid. Two 100kW turbines have been installed so far in the Shetland Tidal Array at Bluemull Sound... That article is very short on detail and the tidal stream turbines at 100kW are small compared to the present generation 2MW and 4MW wind turbines... However, there is a lot of tidal stream power to be tapped and tidal turbines scale up in power more quickly than for wind power... Just one of a number of ways we need to go! This is a long awaited small start to much bigger generation: Any idiot attempting to mess with tidal water would do well to understand what is going on in the California Delta before they mess up another ecosystem beyond repair. But so called green will destroy anything for profit, even worse that fossil fuel and big oil. |
