Sea level rise is accelerating
http://www.cbc.ca/news/technology/sea-level-rise-is-accelerating-1.3070635
Not much more. But more.

The IPCC forecast global sea levels to rise up to 98 centimetres by 2100 — if greenhouse gases continue unabated — or between 28 and 61 centimetres if emissions are mitigated.

Many inhabited islands in the Pacific Ocean will disappear.
More flooding in Bangladesh.
London will get wet feet.
Malibu Beach where lots of houses have been built...

Could 'The Flooding' also include Jihadist controlled areas?

You mean like the Genesis flood narrative?

You don't understand.

I think Puritans (You have to do what I want you to do) like you, are the scourge of Humanity.

The thing a dummy says when he can't answer what is said . Also the tactic of a bully

Funny how history shows what happens when people are totally free , it's called anarchy let's not have any laws right Clyde ..

Clyde my understanding of a Puritan is a Bible basher and there views are more to do with what the bible says is correct .

I am not one of them i see problems and look for answers , so i am more of a conscience of man than a puritan . Something i have been conditioned to do seeing as my old man does not have a conscience at all.

LIBRA people are called the judge everything has to be fair it's why our sign is the scales of justice

Puritans can also be Atheists.

Atheism is not a disbelief in gods or a denial of gods; it is a lack of belief in gods. Older dictionaries define atheism as "a belief that there is no God."

now i'm confused mate

The Puritans were a group of English Protestants in the 16th and 17th centuries, including, but not limited to, English Calvinists. Puritanism in this sense was founded by John Calvin from the clergy shortly after the accession of Elizabeth I of England in 1558, as an activist movement within the Church of England.

I'm speaking of Puritanical.

umm much confused now

adjective
having or displaying a very strict or censorious moral attitude towards self-indulgence or sex.
"his puritanical parents saw any kind of pleasure as the road to damnation"

You saying that because you think i'm celibate

Celibacy (from Latin, cælibatus") is the state of voluntarily being unmarried, sexually abstinent, or both, usually for religious reasons.

no , just shy , but hey some women wants to be a friend with benifits i'm all for that ....

Steering back on topic to live more efficiently in a less polluting and more sustainable way:

We have ongoing here a mix of some very good power tech that is yet another way to be less polluting:

Could this be the world's most efficient solar electricity system?

Using military technology and a zero-emission engine invented by a 19th-century Scot, Swedish firm seeks to revolutionise solar energy production ... [in South Africa!]

As always, that is not a global solution but at 34% conversion efficiency, that is a very good solution for some areas.

Which would you prefer? A shiny futuristic dish, or 80-odd tons of dirt and pollution each year instead of just one clean shiny dish?

Ripasso Energy, a solar technology company from Sweden, with production in Sibbhult taken into operation the first units of its solar power plant in Upington, South Africa. The technique called CSP, Concentrated Solar Power is based on Stirling engines which catches the sun in the large parabolic mirrors to a SPC, "Stirling Power Converter. During the first operating period was a new solar-to-electricity efficiency record of 32% for a 30 kW unit. This measured at an ambient temperature of 28 degrees which confirms the unique characteristics of the Stirling technology from Ripasso Energy, especially for dry and warm regions in the so-called "sun belt when about one third of the solar energy is converted directly to three-phase electricity through the heat engine that drives a conventional generator.

I remember the Stirling engine from my youth:)
A TV show very much like BBC Horizon has been broadcasted since the 60's here.
In one program at that time they showed us how it works.
It's used in some Swedish submarines.
HMS Gotland outside San Diego USA.

Robert Stirling was a Scottish minister who invented the first practical example of a closed cycle air engine in 1816, and it was suggested by Fleeming Jenkin as early as 1884 that all such engines should therefore generically be called Stirling engines.

Scientists have discovered a new state of matter, called 'Jahn-Teller metals'

Because superconductivity allows a material to conduct electricity without resistance, which means no heat, sound, or any other form of energy release, achieving this would revolutionise how we use and produce energy, but it’s only feasible if we can achieve it at so-called high temperatures.

Washing dryers are often gathering a lot of lint from the clothes.
So why not recycle it and save the earth's Resources.

even though it's a high-temperature superconductivity...it's still to cold for Earth...but not so for satelites! ;)

Mayby Electric transformers can be cooled that way and making energy distribution more efficent.

- Electric buses are an important tool in the efforts to make our cities more sustainable and green. With Siemens and Volvo technology and experience, we can help shape new and smart transport solutions, says Ulf Troedsson, CEO Siemens Sweden.
The two companies have already delivered a complete solution with three electric hybrid buses and four charging stations to Hamburg where buses serving the city's new "Innovations-line". During 2015, several all-electric buses, hybrid buses and charging stations delivered to Gothenburg and Stockholm.

I have worked for Siemens a couple of years.
The moved from Stockholm center to the outskirt 40 kms North of Stockholm.
I lived 10 km South of Stockholm.
In the beginning we had our "own" bus driving back and forth.
Then the Company decided to cancel that.
Where is the "greenhouse" thinking of that?
I quit my job...

Maybe I should move to Dubrovnik:)

it costs more energy to cool down the pipelines & transformers, than to have waste in them!
I work in SIEMENS Power transformers company...so take it for granted! ;)

... Electric buses are an important tool in the efforts to make our cities more sustainable and green...

I've seen them in London. Also the new 'Boris' 'hybrid' buses look very neat.

However, recently I was startled by an electric bus on the road locally here...

There was the usual traffic queue at a junction, waiting behind a bus. Then without a noticeable sound and distinctly no roaring engine rumble and nothing of the usual black cloud of diesel smoke, it just glided off and away. The loudest noise was a slight robotic whine and the gentle rumble of the tyres! Spooky!!

Only then did I notice the word "electric" emblazoned on the advertising for the service.

In days of old with some very crude old tech, we've had electric milk floats do the rounds for years. Electric for buses has just got to be a good idea with our present day more modern tech. If only for the spooky no noise and no exhaust!

A little something from another planet!

A few years after the idea as foretold by Frank Herbert for Arrakis?...

Trapping humidity out of fog in Chile

The dry, red earth could almost be mistaken for a Martian landscape. It is in fact the Atacama desert in Chile, one of the driest places on Earth...

... The largest expanse of fog catchers is located in Tojquia in Guatemala, where 60 fog catchers trap 4,000 litres of water a day.

Prof Pilar Cereceda of the University of Chile says she hopes that within a decade Chile will have enough fog catchers to supply the whole Atacama region.

"I dream of the day in which the fog catchers can compete with desalination plants, which [are] not environmentally friendly."

It's something similar to this project:
http://www.scidev.net/global/funding/news/bamboo-water-catcher-project-crowdfunding-target.html
;)

Thanks for that.

That example does look overly expensive... Can't see how that version works better than using shaped netting.

Further to catching the water droplets suspended in mist and cloud, I'm still fond of Frank Herbert's description of his Arrakis water catchers that suggests using aerofoil aerodynamics to 'squeeze' additional moisture out of the passing air.

Then also, that all very much depends on location as to what is most useful.

More care and thought and less corruption needed!

All on our only one planet,
Martin
