As most of you know, I'm on SSDI and am on limited income. I've been crunching on two machines; one mine, and one my parents.

My parents no longer want me crunching on their machine. I had anticipated this, and recently obtained another used system from a friend. I've talked about this system in Rocky's Cafe and TLPTPW. Unfortunately, it has been brought to my attention that the hardware and software of said proposed replacement system is unable to work with the NVIDIA card I have just purchased. (GTX750 TI Superclocked)

So, Central Computers, (where I purchased the card), is willing to build me a system for a bit under $500. This would give me a 550 Watt Antec PSU, an AMD dual core CPU with GPU built in, an inexpensive MB with PCI-e that would accommodate the GTX750 TI Superclocked, 4 GB RAM @ 1600 MHZ, Win 7 Pro OEM, and an inexpensive case.

I desperately need this system to come to fruition; as the system I am currently crunching on, (Constellation), an AMD Athlon XP is typically crunching a WU in 28 Hours to three days time. It just isn't feasible to crunch on Constellation anymore due to these times and the electricity used.

I am therefore turning to the community for fund-raising. I desperately need $350 to pay this system off in full. I would treat such money given to me as a loan that I fully intend to pay back. Any and all persons interested in assisting me, please PM me, and I will forward you my contact information. If I can't get this system, I'm afraid I will have to stop crunching for a long and indefinite period, and I will lose contact with all of you on the boards. I don't want that to happen. Please, help.

Many thanks in advance,

Scott/TL

Good news; due to a last minute odd computer job, and prior assistance from a donor, I now only need assistance with $150.00.

If you can assist, please PM me, and I will give you my contact information. Thank you all in advance.

Sincerely,

Scott/TL

GREAT NEWS!!!

I got off the phone with a good friend of mine at around 10:00 PM - PDT. He is loaning me the $150!!!

I can now get my new computer to crunch with my new GTX750 TI Superclocked!!! :-)

Thank you to those who supported me monetarily. Thank you to those who wanted to; but couldn't, and thank you all for being my friends. :-)

Happy crunching to all!!! :-)

I should have my new computer built by Central Computers of Pleasanton, CA this weekend. I should be crunching with it by Monday.

It's just wonderful when a community gets together and helps each other.
Now if we could only get our Governments to follow such a lead.

Wouldn't it be nice. :-)

Note for those who don't know:

I have made changes to Exeter, (the new system), the specs. are as follows:

AMD A6-6400K, APU with Radeon HD Graphics 3.89 GHz dual core, 4 GB DDR3 1600 MHz RAM, Asus Micro ATX board A58M-A with USB 3.0, EVGA NVIDIA GTX760 2 GB GDDR5, Western Digital SATA 250 GB drive, CD-DVD Dual Layer drive, Fractal Design Micro ATX Case with large front fan, Antec 550 Watt PSU, Logitech Cordless Keyboard K350, Logitech M510 Cordless Mouse, Comodo Internet Security, Spybot Search and Destroy 2.0 all on Win XP Pro x64 with ALL Updates; except hardware updates. I installed Comodo IceDragon with XMarks, Adobe Reader, Adobe Flash, and Forecastfox, Firefox 29.01 with XMarks, Adobe Reader, Adobe Flash, and Oracle Java 32 and 64 Bit. I also installed Apache OpenOffice 4.1.0.

Due to some issues with the GTX750 TI Superclocked on CUDA42; I have changed the video card, (noted in the above specs), to an EVGA GTX760. No issues to report on the 760.

I'm presently crunching four WU's at a time for SETI Main, Beta, and Einstein. Heat remains steady between 68 to 71 C for SETI Main and Beta, and between 64 to 66 C on Einstein.

I did have to have a newer and better CPU heat sink and fan installed this weekend, due to CPU temps hovering in the low 80's C and spiking to 90 C. I now have a Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO copper heat sink with large fan sitting atop the AMD A6-6400K CPU. Temps have been reduced to between 68 and 74 C for the CPU.

All is well in the TARDIS, now. :-)

[EDIT]

Also, unless something major needs to be stated, this Thread should now be closed. It has served its purpose.

Thanks again to those who contributed. Thanks to those who wanted to, but couldn't.

It is good to know that there a friends and comrades here at SETI. :-)
