I'm running Windows 7 on a desktop and have the latest BOINC Manager 7.2.42 (x64). I recently added a Solid State Drive (SSD) to speed up booting up and loading programs. The SSD is drive C. All data, including SETI tasks, are on drive D. When I reboot the computer BOINC starts, but without any tasks. I have to reinstall BOINC to "repair" it, then the tasks reappear. Any suggestions how to get BOINC to remember where the taks are without reinstalling it every time? |

Is "drive D" real HDD ? (not e.g. mapped network drive) Do you install so BOINC Data directory is a subdirectory on D: (e.g. D:\BOINC-Data ) and NOT the root of D: (you can't use D:\ as BOINC Data directory) Also BOINC may have trouble if you put BOINC Data directory as a subdirectory in the BOINC Program directory ( D:\BOINC\BOINC-Data ) What means "BOINC starts, but without any tasks"? (does BOINC say something? anything in Event Log (Ctrl+Shift+E) ?) (it seems BOINC installer have trouble setting the BOINC Data directory permissions) Â - ALF - "Find out what you don't do well ..... then don't do it!" :) Â |

Drive D is a real HDD, not a mapped network drive. BOINC program is installed on D:\Program Files (x86)\BOINC. The BOINC data files are on D:\ProgramData\BOINC. When I boot up, the BOINC Manager starts but there are no projects and no tasks. I then reinstall BOINC and click "repair", which brings up the project and tasks. |

If you are comfortable using REGEDIT, look in "HKLM/Software/Space Sciences Laboratory, U.C. Berkeley/BOINC Setup" to see where it is looking for projects and tasks. Do this AFTER booting and BEFORE starting BOINC. DATADIR should be "D:\ProgramData\BOINC" based on your posting. Post your result here for more help. Before reinstalling with repair, check to see that on your "Tasks" tab you have a top button on the left that reads "Show [active|all] tasks". Try clicking it to see what it does. |

Easier things first: 1. When in BOINC Manager, what does it say in the lower left corner? Does it say Connected to local host (7.2.42)? 2. Checking in Windows Task Manager, do you see a boinc.exe, boincmgr.exe and a boinctray.exe process in the Processes tab? 3. Did you allow BOINC and BOINC Manager through your firewall software? boinc.exe and boincmgr.exe need to be able to talk to each other on TCP port 31416. |
