Hi i wish to run SETI alongside Einstein, is there a way to run them both at the same time so tasks from both projects are running all the time? i have a 4core cpu and a recent gpu.

Yes, you can run two projects, however, BOINC runs on a debt system per project, so there will be times when you get all SETI running and all Einstein, depending on resource share and debt.

I have a few dozen projects attached to my machines - not all projects have tasks running at the same time though.

How do i configure BOINC to do that?

Use the Tools drop-down menu and select Attach to Project. Each project is a separate identity, so you'll have to create a new account with each project.

You are going to run into problems when you do that. Main issue is the deadline for each different project. You can tell Boinc to split it 50/50 but given how some projects set their deadlines, it may use all of your computers time for that project and not allow others to share. Example. If the deadline for Einstein is 10 days compared to 30 days for Seti. Then, the shorter deadline causes Boinc to do a "high Priority" for those work units with the shorter deadline. In this case Einstein. Your computer will now use all it's free time to finishing those work units that are high priority (shorter deadline) before it switches back to those with longer deadline. Problem is, a lot of other projects know this and intentionally make short deadlines to get that "High Priority" so that your computer isn't shared between the different projects as you would like.

Better way would be to have the 2 projects added, suspend one from the Boinc Task manager and run the other for whatever amount of time you choose, then suspending that project and let the other run for a while. You can do this from the advance view of Boinc. Go to your pulldown and click on view. Go to advance view. Now you will have a larger Boinc task manager. There are 6 different areas viewable on the Task Manager. Notices, Projects, Tasks, Transfers, Statistics, Disk. If you click on Projects, you will now see all the projects that you currently belong to. By clicking on one of the projects, the buttons on the left hand side of the task manager under commands should now be pushable. This is where you can tell the project to either update, suspend, no new task, reset project, remove and properties.

When you have more than 1 project. Click on 1 project and then select suspend. This will prevent that project from running till you decide you want to run it. If you are currently running a project and want to keep it from getting new task so that it will finish whatever it has and then not get any more, highlight the project and select no new task. After it finishes you can suspend it. To get the other project started, just highlight it and then click Resume. You can alternate however long you wish between the projects this way. Someone else is going to say this is the long way but really, once you start using other projects you will see that I'm telling you the truth about how some project hijack your system for their projects. Your question wasn't very clear and I answered that you can't configure BOINC to do a 50/50 split.

Zalster's explanation of manually fiddling and babysitting BOINC works, but I can't see why anyone with a life would want to sit around doing something like that just to force BOINC to work a specific way. It's easier to just set your resource shares, accept that the projects will sometimes not run at a perfect 50/50 split and move on to more important things in your life.
