I just installed Ubuntu GNOME 14.04 x64 into a Virtual Box image, (Defiant), on my Win 7 Home Premium laptop that I named Voyager. Ubuntu GNOME 14.04 is very VERY streamlined. It really reminds me of how clean OS X is for MAC.

Has anyone else played around with this OS, yet; or, am I the first one around here doing so? If I'm not alone, I'd like others' feedback on what they think of the OS.

I successfully downloaded and installed Apache OpenOffice 4.0.1, and am working with it in Ubuntu. I was able to "pin" the Apache OpenOffice launcher to the "Favorites" Tool Bar. I also pinned the Terminal launcher to the Favorites Tool Bar.

As usual, Firefox is automatically installed with Ubuntu, and a shortcut is pinned to the Favorites Bar. Unlike Unity, Ubuntu GNOME hides the Favorites Bar keeping the Desktop clean. To see the Bar, click once on "Activities" on the upper Menu Bar, and the Favorites Bar jumps into view.

If I continue to like this OS; when I pickup the old machine from my friend, (the one everyone insisted that I spend no money on), I will install this OS version onto it. Right now my friend is in transition. She bought her new laptop, and is getting used to Win 8.1. Once she is satisfied, (within the next week), I will be picking up the XP Pro x64 system from her. I think I'll partition the drive in two; giving half to XP Pro x64, and half to Ubuntu GNOME 14.04 x64.

I really want to hear what others here think about this OS. Post as you see fit.

I am using Ubuntu 12.04 Desktop as a Virtual machine on my SuSE Linux 13.1. This because BOINC clients are compiled in a Ubuntu environment and are far easier to install in it than on SuSE Linux. But why all those icons on the left side of the screen? SuSE has fewer icons and more terminals available, which I use being an Old UNIX Hand, where no icons were available.

I have dual boot Win8 and Ubuntu 14.04

I like it so far. I've always been a fan of linux. But one of my games Earth and Beyond is broken in Wine and I can't seem to get it running. It's a Mono and dotnet issue I'm assuming.

I say everyone should try it for a while. Problem is the learning curve that people don't like.

Yes; but, BuzzStPoint, are you on Unity or Ubuntu GNOME. There is a HUGE difference. If your tool bar is permanently locked on the left side of your desktop, and the stock background for the desktop is red, you are on Unity. If; however, your desktop is empty, and on the top menu bar at the left you see Activities, then you are on Ubuntu GNOME 14.04 x64. I'm specifically talking about Ubuntu GNOME 14.04. It seems that the developers of Ubuntu changed GNOME around to suit their needs for the OS; it isn't regular, straight GNOME. I know; because, I'm running regular GNOME on Ubuntu 12.04 32-Bit.
