This the place to talk about your pets issues to help or correct problems you have and maybe someone else knows how to help you. We might be lucky and a vet might jump in here to help at times.

This is a great idea, Grant. Thank you for starting a thread about it. I have what are considered to be exotic pets, rabbits and turtles, so I find myself explaining to people all the time what those sort of animals need.

Hard to believe that my dog is going to be 14 already, weak in the knee's and hard to get around but still a nice dog. Hates hair cuts and let me tell you he has been through groomers.

What a wonderful thread Grant!! Thank you! :) (Not sure my wingless rescued bumble bee counts as very exotic but he still seems to be okay... which is good because I doubt whether a vet would be much assistance if he wasn't.

Didn't know you also had rabbits Gordon? Used to have rabbits, and guinea-pigs. But they died. Did reach good ages first though. Get really sad whenever I prepare salad now because I used to get squealed and thumped at for titbits throughout... and then had to give some to the dogs too because they got jealous. :)

Your dog sounds lovely Grant :) They're such faithful friends :)

I work with a K-9 police officer who just retired a dog, and that dog has some knee problems, too. He's a Belgian Malinois. The local police import them from the Netherlands.

Didn't know you also had rabbits Gordon?

Yes, they are 4 ½ pound Rex's, jet black, and they like lounging around as much as I do. They're wonderful little animals, who have free run of my home. For anyone who doesn't know much about pet house rabbits, they are very low-maintenance. Just make sure they have unlimited Timothy hay(preferably 3rd cut), and fresh water. They are also very clean and fastidious, and easy to litter box train. They do chew, so protect your electrical wires, but other than that, they are great companions... the best kind really for me... they don't bark, meow, or really have any attitude per se... they just co-exist with me, and it's nice.

Great Gordon, Day Off?

Day off, yes, but night off, no... working at night all weekend because of the Kentucky Derby. Hotel business is big this weekend.

He he he he he ... when I was quite young we had some goats - they truly eat anything ... my breakfast and my spoon, followed by my mother's cheque book, car keys and purse, at which point she arrived on the scene and they leapt out the window towing the table cloth and it's contents behind them. :)

I think I've heard alsations/German shepherds are prone to ricketts Grant (don't know if that's the correct spelling either :)) Sad though. A lot of problems have started to appear in pedigree breeds, largely as a result of too small a gene pool being utilised by breeders. :(

Awww... that's a shame. Does he let you rub or massage it gently or does it get too painful for that? We had a dog who liked to lean against a hot water bottle when he was achey. We also had a dog who liked to chew hot water bottles... suppose it's fortunate that we didn't have them at the same time. :)

Grant, have you tried Glucosamine, for the knees?? It's good for Hip Dysplasia in Dogs also.
If your vet, recommends Rimadyl, don't use it.

Grace My cat chewed on some wires, got down to bare copper, I think it was quite shocking as the other wire only had a bite mark in the insulation, whereas the 1st wire was bare copper, shocking. Never the less I think that cured Her of that.

Hi Byron, it's just a way for people to air or discuss the problem with their pets and so on. I hope it's fun.
