I notice that when i get wu's with estimated run times of between 1&2 hrs that i can't "show graphics". Is this normal or is this a problem with my settings? If it is a problem with my machine, software, or settings please explain it to me like you would a 3 year old child, my computer knowledge is slim to none. TY:) |

I believe you have an integrated graphic on your chip. I know for dedicated graphic cards it will not show as you would be trying to get it to do 2 things. 1) process the data 2) show the graphics for the data you are processing. It's either one or the other. I'm not sure if this applies to Integrated graphics as well but I would think it would. Good thing is, you are processing the work units and I see you have been getting validations on those results. From your statement I'm assuming that you do see the graphic for "longer" work units? Those are probably CPU work units which typically do have the "Show Graphics". My 2 cents. I'm sure someone else will post with either a better answer or more indepth if I'm wrong. You probably talk about 'SETI@home v7 v7.03 (opencl_intel_gpu_sah)' tasks The SETI@home applications that run tasks on GPUs have no graphics part Only applications that run tasks on CPU have graphics part (which is another .exe and you can see it start in Windows Task Manager or Process Explorer after clicking [Show graphics] button) Those tasks are not "smaller wus" Obviously your GPU (which is integrated in the CPU chip) is faster than one CPU core so you see the tasks which run on the GPU complete in shorter time. Now that i think about it, you both are correct. I lost the option to see the graphics right around the time when i changed the settings to "use gpu while computer is in use" for seti tasks (i think that's what i did at least LOL). If i revert the settings back to the default i'll probably see the graphics again. But i'm processing seti tasks so much faster now i probably won't mess with my settings again. |

I lost the option to see the graphics right around the time when i changed the settings to "use gpu while computer is in use" No, this does not matter. You have to select a Running CPU task to use [Show graphics] button Just now you probably don't have CPU tasks or have only one: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/results.php?hostid=7260047&offset=0&show_names=0&state=1&appid= Look for 'SETI@home v7 v7.00' You can also read: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Simple_View#Tasks_Window "Graphics: If the science application supports graphics, this option will be enabled. Graphics will open in a separate window. Not all projects have graphics." http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Advanced_view#The_Tasks_tab "Show graphics: Open a window showing application graphics. (Only available if that application has graphics, and when the Status of the selected task is 'running'.)" Â - ALF - "Find out what you don't do well ..... then don't do it!" :) Â |

Yeah i know i have to select a running task to use the show graphics button but none of the tasks i've ran for the past couple weeks have allowed me to see graphics. Maybe i've only been been receiving the non-graphics (gpu) tasks. |

Andrew, there is an easy way to know which work units are using the graphics and which are only using the cpu. (If you know this already then I apologize but for those that don't) First make sure you are looking at the advance display of the Boinc Manager. Go to the pull down screen of the Boinc Manager and look for the View button. Click on it and change it to advance view. You should have a nice large Boinc Manager. Click on the button marked Tasks. Several things will now show. Project, Progress. Status, Elapsed, Remaining, Deadline, Application, Name. You should now see several to all of your current work units listed. Look at the application tab. For your system if it says Seti@home v7 7.00 then that is a CPU work unit and it should allow the "Show Graphics" to highlight (or be pushable). If it says SETI@home v7 v7.03 (opencl_intel_gpu_sah) then this is a Graphic Card work unit and no graphic will show. If you ever get another system, and add Boinc there as well, anything that has Cuda and/or Opencl in the application name will be a Graphic work unit and therefore no graphic will show. Long explanation for such a quick check. Hopes this helps. You are receiving some CPU task but only a few since it takes a much longer time to process one. Your Graphic portion is much faster so you are getting more of those since it doesn't take as long to complete one of those. Happy Crunching.. Zalster |

Maybe I've only been receiving the non-graphics (GPU) tasks. Why "Maybe"? It is clearly visible: 1) in BOINC Manager - Tasks tab - Application column: if the name have something enclosed in ( ) it is GPU task (so have no graphics part) 2) in Windows Task Manager: look for a process using 'much' CPU time - it is a CPU task (and have graphics part) (but some GPU apps/tasks also use 'much' CPU time) Name of SETI@home CPU process and its graphics part process: setiathome_7.00_windows_intelx86.exe setigraphics_7.00_windows_intelx86.exe I don't know the name of the .exe which runs SETI@home v7 v7.03 (opencl_intel_gpu_sah) tasks but you can check in SETI@home directory (<BOINC_Data>\projects\setiathome.berkeley.edu\) Where is BOINC Data directory  - ALF - "Find out what you don't do well ..... then don't do it!" :)  |

Yep, that's what I've been receiving, SETI@home v7 v7.03 (opencl_intel_gpu_sah). That's why I'm not getting the option to show graphics. Thank you guys/gals for being patient and clearing this up for me :) |
