Message 1505531 - Posted: 18 Apr 2014, 9:01:53 UTC

I as most of you know, I have trouble relating to my current world, so I often retreat to that of my youth.
I am not sure, but I think I must have been plugged into an old Victrola, and then, a Silvertone radio and then the first few RCA televisions made, and left there to absorb it all.

Somehow I did, and at times, it is all I can do to drag myself crying and screaming to the present world and leave that past world to function in the current one.

As usual, there are always those among you that consider some of my posts just random nonsense, it shall pass, yada yada, yada.

I assure you, these thoughts are quite real to me. I have a lot of problems even sober. Face and name recognition evade me, embarassingly so at times. This has been present in my high school years, long before I drank much. It is all I can do to connect a face with a name. There is a name for this disability.
I do not have it available just now.

All BS aside, I seem to often more relate to some things at or even before my birth age. Music, entertainers of the time, what is available to me on the internet. I cherish old bits I have not seen before, that somehow were preserved or presented for me to review now.

My life is at times torn betwixt present and past.
You can all make fun of me, or diss me, or say whatever you want. Or, as many have, just take the easy way out and filter me out of your Seti lives.

I am really not hurt by that, you must do what you feel is correct for yourselves.

I am only trying to explain a little bit of what makes me who I am.

'I come from kpax. I come from the 40s. I come from the set of American Graffiti. I dunno, mostly, or exactly WHERE I come from. I was Wolfman Jack, I was this, I was that...........
Fact is, I am not sure WHO I am much anymore. Many stories, as you might say.
Many ARE stories. Many are not.

If anybody has any direct questions about me or my life, please ask, and I shall try to answer with what I know to be true today. Or tomorrow, or the next day.

I will try to answer any honest questions.
Please don't abuse the open nature of the forum I have presented.
Any blatantly hostile or abusive posts or questions shall be gone.

I really am just asking, are there any questions you wish to ask of the kittyman?

The lines are open, the kitties are waiting.

Meow.

Mark,
I some senses I feel your pain, in others it is far beyond my understanding.
But I ask you just a couple of simple things, and things I think you will be quite able to do.
First, look after your kitties in the manner they deserve. I say this as one who would be classed as an animal lover, nothing more, nothing less (I hope).
Second, look out for Lori. From what I've read she's a "tough gal", but is going through a very tough patch. To miss quote a song "Stand by your Gal".

The kitties are VERY well taken care of. And none more loved or loving of me on the planet.
Lori, as an eternally recovering ex alc, does an amazing job of understanding. But she won't put up with any crap, either....LOL. She wants me to do some shopping with her tonight, and I gave her my word that I would. So.....no drinking for me today.

BTW....

Don't get too hubristic Mark, that would not be advisable.

Hey, don't pee on my Cheerios, buddy.
I am simply glad I got up on the right side of the bed today.

Mark, I love listening to old time radio. Those radio shows from the late 30's right up untill they went off the radio. I cant remember ever hearing one growing up But I must have as we didnt get a tv untill 1957 and I was 5 years old then.
We have a college station called WRVO that has played old time radio shows since the 1970's. For the last 4 years I have been listening to channel 82 on Sirus XM. They play old time radio shows 24/7.
I also like the big band music. Goodman, Dorsey, Etc.

Your not alone in likeing a bygone era. One of my grandsons who will 17 soon, Said to me while I was driving and listening to some 70's rock. Grandpa you sure had some great music back then.

Nostalgia, It never goes out of style.

I haven't fired it up in a long while, but I have an old Airline tube console...huge thing. There used to be an AM radio station WNAM that carried big band era programming all the time. It was wonderful to listen to it on a radio that dated back to the early days. Lent a sound to it that added to it's ambiance.
It was most relaxing to lay in bed listening to it until I fell asleep.

Back when I was teenager I had an old Philco tube radio. On the weekends I would stay up into the wee hours just tuning that dial trying to get the most distant AM station I could. I did mange to pick up a station in San Antonio TX some times. I had a log of stations I kept from back then, I will have to see if I still have it. I doubt it though. I had a soft coverd book called Whites radio log. It had the call letters of every radio station in the US. Id listen for the stations call letters then look it up and write it down.
Today with the digiatl tuners you cant get skip and tune it in like back with a dial tube job.

I was always fascinated with tube equipment. I believe there is still some very high end enthusiast level audio equipment made that uses them at least for preamp functions, and there were also some very expensive power amplifiers made that used them in their output stages.

We are so spoiled today. I can remember driving from Florida to New York state at night just wishing to keep a ballgame on the radio to keep me awake. Nowdays with satelite radio as long as you are not in tunnel or under a bridge You can hear the whole game driving from here to where ever.

But back when I was a young lad channel hoping was part of the fun of what you might be listening to next.

I remember back in the 60's my brother had an old stereogram with a SW radio in it, and he used to pick up live baseball games from the USA on it. Even today the Hifi purists still prefer the sound of a Quad valve amp and vinyl to DVD and electronics, but have you seen the price of 'em?? Quad Amps

Ahhh, so they are still doing it in the last 20 years or so since I last was familiar with it. That's exactly what I was referring to. And only 25w/channel. Although when they are overdriven, tubes do not produce the hard clipping artifacts that transistor amplifiers do, so they can be pushed closer to their limits without producing the audible nasties that a clipping transistor amp does. As I recall, the design of the impedance matching transformers was somewhat of a black art, and they are usually much oversized compared to what might be actually required to get the job done. Special materials and winding techniques, etc..
Thanks, Chris.

Nostalgia, It never goes out of style.

Well said.

I live better in my past than I sometimes do in my present.
And so I visit there when I can.
Life was kinder to me, and most others then.
Facing hard reality has it's difficulties.
Running headfirst into a wall you refuse to believe exists is a rather difficult thing. And yet I back up and try it again. And again. And again.

I guess the important thingy for people with my problem involving reality is that we do indeed, try again. For once in a short while, the wall breaks, and we are able to get through. I have a few moments of such clarity once or twice a year. They are what gets me through the rest of my existence.

I envy those of you who have such enormous grasp of the world around you at all times. I have to struggle and grasp at all times to maintain my grip on it at all.

It is, at times most elusive. Most difficult. Wake up in the morning, eat, go to work, get to bed. Rinse, repeat. Again and again and again. Always remember to feed the cats, sometimes to bathe. Or change clothes.

It's only those few times that the clouds clear that I can regain the sense of time that has passed since.

I know this might be impossible for some of you to understand, and some of you think I am putting on, but having blocks of time in your life go by a half a year at a time can be quite unsettling.

This is one of the things that I live with, kitties. It just is.
So perhaps that explains some of my perception of life. I was a youth when this set in, perhaps launched when my brother left me. And so, maybe in my mind, I have not advanced more than about half a year at a time since then.
And so, what I perceive to be reality is maybe about 30 years old.
Maybe that's why some things today fascinate me so. The events inbetween are sometimes lost to me.

And so, my struggle continues. I give my thanks to the very few that have tried to understand throughout. I hope these missives lend some more bits for your continued understanding of the kittyman.
Meow.

Mark, what you're saying about the here and now makes sense to me. I've always been kind of an island to myself, and reality is sort of like visiting the mainland once in awhile. I have most of what I need on my island, but sometimes you gotta get on the boat and go over...

Where I come from, not all things are the same as on this world.
The sun shine brighter, the kitties all are cared for, and there is no need or want for any that live there.
As the quote from another of my favorite movies, alongside kpax, goes.... That's me............

If and when I ever stop communicating with you, then you shall know I have passed.
Because, I love my association with my fellow Setizens so much, you know I shall never be kept away or held down for very long.

That's me.....
1x3=3x3=and on and on and on,.
Perfect world? Yeh, us kpaxians live on such a world. And we exist to export it to other worlds, if they are willing to receive it.

It seems some here are not. And the grieves me very much, because we have so much to share with you. The end point is you. Your end is coming, faster than you realize. We can take your souls and transport them into a safe zone far beyond your coming catastrophe. We can save your species, if you wish.

It's your choice, really.

We await your response.

This, just possibly, explains where I come from.
There are no explanations sometimes, just the need of that moment in time.
And some do not understand the urgency of that moment.
It sometimes just takes an instant to save another human being's life.

The other moments (plural) are from another movie that I hold dear to my heart.
Not the Wizard of Oz, although you all know that is one of my favorites.
Not the Bridge Over the River Kwai, not Sutherland in that 'bridge movie'.

One few of you have acknowledged watching to me. One I think you must see.

Once in a long while, comes an adventure that only few can take part in.
Second Hand Lions.
A kid cast off by his wayward mother to his really reclusive uncles.
Who, as it turns out, have more to hide than they show.
Including their eccentricities. Love them both for their portrayals in this flick.
Most wonderful.
Telephone, ain't got one...just my cell.
Television, ain't had a set since about 1990 or so, I reckon.
