Interesting. The fraud department at Citibank just called me to inform me that a certain Shawn David Smith needed to renew his accredidation and needed his personal info to do so. I told them that Mr. Smith no longer resided here, but I would give them his personal info as requested. He now has a nice credit history and possibly a grand bank account off in the Bahamas somewhere. The caller, who could barely speak English, thanked me most profusely for my cooperation. And a week ago, I think it was, this barely audible asian gurl calls up. She thinks I am a rummy, so she starts out...and you can hear she is coming from a freaking call center of some kind, because I can here the gurl next ot here giving the same schtick. "uh, was has been watching your computers,,,,,,,have some things wes don know...we has to take steps ....you are com pro mised..yes. That is word.... com pro mised. Unless yous pay now. Ok? Pay now? Yes, you pay now. We has your numba, only need to pay now. We go aways den. Pay now, prease. onry need to pray now and all goes aray. You numbas, prease? we go aray den. no more worry, just fine den. Numba? oh, no numba, we sen dem now for you. If no numba. dey be dere soon. you see. just give numba, all Ok. Click. My patience with the joke ran out, I guess. What the flaming F??? They actually find enough people that fall for this that it pays to keep them on the phone? I suppose, one born every minute. "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

What the flaming F??? They actually find enough people that fall for this that it pays to keep them on the phone? Unfortunately, my mum is one of those you refer to above (since she developed alzheimers) She has been ripped off so many times and lost so much money, and been put through so much distress as a result. It's one of the reasons she now lives with me (with breaks staying with my sister) to protect her from these awful scams and the people behind them, and from herself. :) |

This was a semi-productive day. Caught one worthwhile train, then headed out to the museum and got in a couple of trips standing next to the motorman. More details in the train thread. Ping! Kids, I dunno when I shall be able to share such things again, if ever. I had one's trust that I no longer posess. I tried to contact JJ one last time. No response, as was the usual for the last 15 years or so. My heart is now truly broken. Yes friends, I have Lori's love. And that remains a constant. But at least one of you out there understands my situation. The pain of wishing at the well, and knowing, one day, the train just don't run here anymore. It's like me looking Sguirrel in the eyes that one last time, and knowing it is the last, very last time ever. I have a problem with eternity. It's like, disable it in the bios or something. Re Freaking boot. Dog don't hunt, cat don't scratch, Things have always been under my control. Things are starting to get away from me, and are spiralling out of my control. I cannot deal with that. I just cannot. "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

Well, I finally (after putting it off for 40 years) got my Technician Class Amateur Radio license. Passed the test on the 1st try back on the Ides of March in Scottsdale, AZ. Attempted the General Class test as well, but didn't pass that one, so I'm going to re-take it up here on May 3rd. The only difference this time is when (not if I pass it, I'll be able to use the privileges right away, using the appended call sign, "KG7JVO/AG", at least until I see my upgraded license on the FCC's ULS database. Last time, I had to wait till I saw it on the ULS database before I could start transmitting. Mike B. KG7JVO Prescott, AZ. |

Late night listening to The Oasis, a classic Jazz show on the local Public Radio station. Can't stand the NPR national talkers on during the daytime, but love The Thistle & Shamrock on Sunday nights, and all the local programming, mostly classical and jazz. I donate $25 a month, and get my money's worth evenings and weekends. That's a win.... Donald Infernal Optimist / Submariner, retired |
