I don't think it's a good idea to run SETI on a laptop. Who knows how much you're lowering its life expectancy and it's not like you can open it up and replace a part.

Don't know... my laptop is now over 8 years old, it run 38,000+ hours so far according to the information I get from the HDD, not all of it with BOINC, but most. No problems here, ~55°C on the CPU now, up to 63°C when it's really hot in summer. OK, I modified the cooling a bit and undervolted the CPU, so it's running about 25-30°C cooler that it would without this modifications...

I am running SETI@home, Einstein@home and Test4Theory@home 24/7 on my HP 635 laptop with SuSE Linux 12.3 and VirtualBox 4.3.10. But I changed its 320 GB hard disk at 5400 RPM with a Samsung 840 SSD of 256 GB.
