And it took you all that time to think of something to say Clyde? Which isn't much and just what I'd expect from you. ;-) Some people really need to look further than the end of their noses. Cheers. |

Yep, recoil can be a bugger! The first weapon I ever fired was a Lee Enfield .303 rifle & did not have it securely braced against my shoulder. It hurt for weeks. I am assuming that your phrase machine pistols/guns means exactly what it says. IE a machine pistol and or machine gun. IMHO no minor should be allowed to fire a class 3 weapon. Especially a 9 year old. My two grandsons are still working on on .22 rimfire. And they are 15 and 17 years old now. But I feel they are now ready to take the next step up and shoot .38 specials. But they will still get one round at first. Just so I can see how they handle recoil. I want them to know how to safely handle a firearm. If at some point they say I dont want to do this anymore. Thats fine with me. At least they will have the knowledge to handle a firearm safely. Im sure some of you in other lands are peeing your pants reading about me teaching two of my grand kids how to safely handle and shoot a firearm. Well I pee my pants reading about the crap going on in other lands also. [/quote] Old James |

You assumed correct. Peeing my pants? No, for the simple fact is that I see a sensible man posting about his responsibility in teaching his children weapon safety in a highly responsible manner. Weapons are just tools & like any other tool used by the untrained can become deadly. If everyone took the same attitude as yourself, there would be less fatal incidents such as the one posted. |

Backstepping 24 hours ..Why this obsession? I have never been able to understand it... The main reason for this is our news services are choked with American trivia. I don't mean "real news" like what's happening with Congress, major disasters etc but "fireman rescues cat" type stuff that the local networks pull of the bird and use as stocking fillers to save them the cost of having their own news teams on the road in their own country. This is why, in some countries, the inhabitants have a better knowledge of what's going on in the US than a lot of Americans and than what's going on in their own country. When you add the facts that, a) The US is the most powerful country on the planet, with the capability of reducing us all to radioactive dust. b) It currently appears to have a totally dysfunctional federal government that, like a rudderless ship, is just going round in decreasing circles. c) It appears (from the news we receive), that from the Federal down to the counties, the level of corruption appears to be at a height that would be the envy of any South American or African banana republic. This leaves people wondering just who is running the place. d) America's financial power is the equal of its military. It can make or break any country. (Remember when Wall St. forced the UK government to devalue the Pound Sterling) This is why the rest of the world watches the US so closely. You are the crazy boy with the gun and when the US breaks wind, we all stop to check that it was indeed just a f*rt and not a burst from multi-thousand round per minute machine gun. T.A. |

So, gun control works, you say? http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-london-29490245 4 October 2014 Last updated at 07:55 ET |

It looks like high powered semi-automatic hand guns are now finally being looked at here for banning which could effect the plans of 2 major weapons manufacturing companies. http://www.news.com.au/national/breaking-news/gun-reform-could-impact-business-beretta/story-e6frfku9-1227090402096 All I can say is, "hurry up and ban them!". Cheers. |

So, gun control works, you say? You pick up on one incident. In the UK we have less than one police officer killed, by a criminal, per year. In the US for most years since the beginning of the 20th century there have been more than 100 police officers killed, by criminals, per year. Damned right gun control works. Take a look at Oz since they tightened there controls. |

Anecdotal evidence like this is hardly compelling proof of anything. You know better than this Gary. |

Anecdotal evidence like this is hardly compelling proof of anything. You know better than this Gary. I think what is very telling is that events like this are so incredibly rare here. An attack on Canadian parliament like this has never happened before, yet how many attacks have we been hearing about on Obama just recently? Reality Internet Personality |

Anecdotal evidence like this is hardly compelling proof of anything. You know better than this Gary. But they can not be prevented, which seems to be the selling point of gun control. An attack on Canadian parliament like this has never happened before, yet how many attacks have we been hearing about on Obama just recently? Does Fox News count? |
