http://www.cnn.com/2014/04/09/justice/pennsylvania-school-stabbing/ This happened 2 days ago. 21 people injured. 4 students critically injured. Thankfully, none dead. Why has this not yet been mentioned here? Where is all the righteous indignation calling for the ban of common kitchen knives? Or this one? http://www.clickorlando.com/news/person-of-interest-sought-in-winter-park-day-care-crash-1-child-killed/25398914 Over a dozen injured, and 1 4-year old girl dead. Where is all the righteous indignation calling for the ban of cars? Yet, whenever there is a particularly noteworthy crime involving guns, many here crawl out of the woodwork calling for extreme regulation and/or outright banning of guns. Why the double standard? A knife or a car or a great many other things can kill someone just as dead as a gun can. Or groups of people... relatively quickly. Why the double standard? https://youtu.be/iY57ErBkFFE #Texit Don't blame me, I voted for Johnson(L) in 2016. Truth is dangerous... especially when it challenges those in power. |

It is the feminist cabal that is behind gun confiscation as they are behind all castrating programs. The kid got the knives from his mother's kitchen so there is no value in this for the cabal. |

You got my point, though perhaps a bit too narrow an interpretation of it. Those behind the 'righteous indignation' whenever a kid gets injured or killed with a gun have an ulterior motive for doing so... https://youtu.be/iY57ErBkFFE #Texit Don't blame me, I voted for Johnson(L) in 2016. Possibly because knives and cars have other useful tasks to perform, chopping food and getting to work for example. What other uses do guns have beside killing things? Bashing in nails perhaps? The car crash was an accident, accidents will happen. 1 dead, 12 injured. The stabbing rampage was deliberate, however there were no deaths, 14 injured. The cinema shooting in Colorado in 2012, twelve dead, 70 injured. Guns are far more dangerous objects and therefore need regulation. Life on earth is the global equivalent of not storing things in the fridge. |

If you must know, my first thought when hearing about this attack was "thank god they weren't using a gun" Can you imagine what sort of tragedy we'd be looking at then??? Reality Internet Personality |

I'm going to assume deliberate troll here. Perhaps you should remind yourself of the posting rules? Reality Internet Personality |

Also, because its a lot harder to reach the same amount of devastation with knives compared to guns. Take the recent attack in China where a group of 10 terrorists attacked a crowded station with swords. Around 30 people died and a lot of people got wounded. So thats an average of three dead per attacker. Now look at the average death count of a spree shooter. One person with a gun has can relatively easily kill a dozen of people. Face it, getting stabbed generally leaves you with better odds to survive than getting shot. And indeed, what useful purpose in Western society does a gun have? You need knives to cut stuff when you are preparing food and you need cars to get around. But what do guns do? They are marginally useful only in very specific and relatively rare instances. |

And indeed, what useful purpose in Western society does a gun have? Biathlon is one of many. |

You got my point, though perhaps a bit too narrow an interpretation of it. More trolling. How you link gun crime to castration and feminism is bizarre, it says more about your psyche than it does about the topic of the thread. ..and your comment about knives being for cooking therefore the perogative of women was just a slight step away from the tired old "b*tch, make me a sandwich" comment that we've all seen over and over again. How dull. From the posting rules "No abusive comments involving race, religion, nationality, gender, class or sexuality. " Stop trolling. Next one gets a red X. Reality Internet Personality |

And indeed, what useful purpose in Western society does a gun have? Thats sport. You wanna compare one specific type of sport with the general usefulness of cars or knives. |

... The subject is guns and you asked "And indeed, what useful purpose in Western society does a gun have?"and I gave you an answer. So do you agree or not that guns can be useful in civilian hands? |

Guns were designed with one purpose in mind - to kill, animals and humans, sport came afterwards. Newer and later guns can kill people much more accurately. No other reason for the existence of guns, they kill, and maim that is what they are designed to do. |

Newer and later guns can kill people much more accurately. I assume most non Americans don't have a recent history of guns as tools. When I was a boy there was always a double barrel shotgun by the door, unloaded with the shells in a cabinet to the left. This was in a then rural part of the North East USA. There were no super malls where one could buy 10 chickens. Game animals supplemented the domestic stock at almost no cost. So back to my question; is there ANY useful reason for a civilian to have a gun? A yes or no will suffice without the red herring editorializing. |

I am not exactly happy with his 'feminist cabal' comments either, but what are you going to do? I tried a gentle re-direct, which turned out to not be successful. If it is their opinion, they have a right to it, and a right to 'speak' about it. Please don't threaten censorship of people's statements that you do not approve of. Just go ahead and push the 'red X' if you feel you must, but don't threaten someone else with it. There are FAR worse things than just having an unpopular opinion and speaking about it. In my opinion, threatening someone with censorship is one of them. And why the abusive insults about 'trolls' anyway? |

Are you seriously telling me that this wasn't a complete troll and he actually believes this? Because I don't. No one is that stupid. Reality Internet Personality |

A yes or no will suffice without the red herring editorializing. So you would ban 26 Olympic sports and force hundreds of NCAA schools to drop sports along with the scholarships? Thank you for clarifying your postilion. |
