I just downloaded the program and it is doing a nine hour countdown but is saying that the program has not started. It says zero work has been done on the project and yet is showing time elapsed and time remaining. Will it begin working after this nine hour countdown? I know I am not accruing credits while this countdown is taking place. Can someone please explain this to me?

Welcome to SETI@Home

Credits are awarded after you finish tasks and they have been validated against another user, this can be almost instant, or can take months....

I assume you are using the standard "simple" view - this gives very little info about what is running, and what is waiting to run. If you use the "advanced" view you get more information.

On new computers the initial estimates can be wildly out, nine hours sounds a bit long for your processor, I'd guess that the task will take about 3-4 hours of computing, but might take longer elapsed time depending on what else the computer is doing.

You have completed 20 work units, there are 4 more currently being worked on. When work is sent, at a minimum 2 copies are sent out. 1 to you, another to someone else. After you complete your work unit, the result is sent back to Seti and it is compared to the other persons result whenever that comes in. If they match, they are you granted credit. If they don't, or if there was an error in either your result or the other person, then a 3rd copy is sent to a 3rd person. This may occur up to 5 times. If none of the results match, no one is granted credit. If 2 peoples results match then only those 2 persons are granted credit. Currently only 3 of your results have had the other person return their result but they didn't match. The other 17 work units are waiting for the other persons to return their results. Your estimated time to complete will begin to come down as seti has a better idea on how long it takes your system to complete a work unit. Just give it some more time, as other people start to crunch (process) the multibeams (the type of work unit you are currently working on) you should start to see some credits accumulate. The website goes down on Tuesdays for several hours for maintenance, so if that happens nothing is wrong. There are 2 types of work units for seti. Multibeams and Astropulses. Your system will process MBs, occasionally you will get a Astropulse. Those are very complex work units and take much longer to process( anywhere from 16-36 hours) depending on your system and processors. If you get one of those, if it seems like it takes forever, just be aware that they are very complex. Ask any question you want and someone will eventually answer it, lol. Happy Crunching..

I've just checked back to see how you are getting on, and see this on your summary page:

State: All (139)
In progress (14)
Validation pending (79)
Validation inconclusive (41)
Valid (2)
Invalid (3)
Error (0)

This is a bit worrying, I wouldn't expect to see three "Invalid" results in a month on my top cruncher, let alone in a few hours. This is indicative of there being a problem with your PC.
Looking a bit deeper I see that these results have come from the GPU part of your processor. I have no knowledge of these processors, so you will have to either wait for someone who knows about them to pass by this thread, or ask a question in the "GPU applications" area.

Might be her Driver version. What I remember is certain versions have bugs that cause problems with Seti. I don't know enough either to help. TBar or Claggy might know more about this. Hopefully one of them will wonder thru here and give some insight. I seem to remember a thread on this a while back. If I find anything that looks like it might help, I'll post it here. Main thing is to make sure that your Driver for the graphics is up to date. I don't know if you have enough credits yet (you need a certain amount to post in the message boards) but I found that thread. I'll post it here, if you can post there, it will show up in the main Number Crunching Bulletin board where more experience users of ATI cards are. They might be able to help pinpoint the problem.

Update your GPU drivers.
You are using 11.10 drivers which are causing trouble with OpenCL apps.

Install driver 13.4 or later.
