This just in.

Dec 8 (Reuters) - An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.7 hit off the Solomon Islands at 1738 GMT on Thursday, the U.S. Geological Survey said. The quake was initially reported to be of magnitude 8.0.

“Hazardous tsunami waves from this earthquake are possible within the next three hours along some coasts of Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea, Nauru, New Caledonia, Tuvalu and Kosrae,” the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said.

Well we didn't feel it here at all, it's 143 miles north west of here as the crow fly's.

A bit farther if it has to carry a flat tire. LOL

Got a small wake up call this morning, we had a 5.0 at 8:40 AM PST, the center was 13 miles from here.
The Building made some noise and shook my bedroom a bit is all.

Bogoslof Volcano in Alaska Unexpectedly Erupts

If a volcano erupts in the middle of the pacific and there is no one to hear it, does it make any noise?
It clearly made some dust.

A tsunami alert issued after a powerful 7.6-magnitude earthquake off the coast of southern Chile has now been lifted.

The quake struck at 14:22 GMT on the island of Chiloe, about 40km (25 miles) south-west of Quellon, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) said.

Its depth was about 34km.

Chile's national emergency office issued an alert and ordered the evacuation of coastal areas of Los Lagos region.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center had warned that hazardous waves of up to 3m (9ft 10in) above tide level were possible on coasts located up to 1,000km from the quake's epicentre.

But it later said: "Based on all available data, the tsunami threat from this earthquake has now passed."

We are feeling quite left out all this tectonic activity :-(
The best we can do for mainland UK is a couple of 0.8/0.9 in the Lake District, or a 3.8 in the middle of the North Sea. I doubt that anyone's teas was stirred by any of them.

Bwahahahaha, yeah the 1st two would go unfelt by Humans, and that 3.8, ignorable, but then only fishes live there today, since that's flooded mastodon habitat, and they're extinct...
