David_83470 |

David, Sorry to see you leave. If you don't want it hogging your GPU times, then you can change your preferences in each project so that they aren't used. GPUs are used as they can dramatically decrease the time need to analyze data. However, if you don't want to use them, all you have to do is tell Seti you don't want any of those work units. This can be found in the "preference for this project" section of each project, and deselect all the GPUs. This way you only get CPU work units. Other options are go to the Bonic Manager, click on tools and go to computing preferences. Make sure to uncheck "Use GPU while computer is in use" Last, below these you can select what time's during the day or night when the bonic can use your system. The choice is yours. I bid you good day.. |

Thanks for your kind answer Zalster, I made corrects settings through SETI home page last week. Nothing changed. I always dwnld "things" requiring GPU. That's dramaticaly slow down everything. Everyone around target me. So : stop SETI and others projects THAT ONLY USE GPU. But before : it worked fine... Who decided to change something that worked correctly ??? Sorry but I'm tired : even on main web page to set SETI préférences : I still receive sheet-cudaXX... I do not contribute anymore to this project anyway unless SETI offers a true answer to solve a major problem with GPU. Sorry, David_83470 |

By default Boinc selects the "don't use GPU when machine is in use" So when you come back to your machine and wake it up out of screensaver it should stop GPU work and act "normally" Now that's not to say that something has been accidentally changed in your preferences, and the GPU is still working, which can cause issues. If you're set 'Use Nvidia GPU' and 'Use Intel GPU' to No in the Setiathome project preferences, the next step is to Reset the project, your existing work will get resent to your host, but only to the devices you allow. (These preferences only stop work fetch, they don't affect already received work) Claggy |

Thanks Ianab. I tried many settings but GPU projects are all running even if option "Use GPU when PC is in use" is OFF. I run BOINC v. 7.2.42 (widgets 2.8.10) on my BOINC computer. Windows x64 (Intel i5) has been correctly installed and it has no other apps (no games, no goodies, no apps, etc.). I run it only for science calculations - not more. What I don't understand : why all SETI projects are coming now for GPU usage ? It was so simple by past outside GPU. I'd rather get a solution - I even ready to collaborate via AMMYY. If I suggest that is because I'm feel strongly protected against viruses, malwares and other craps. I'm quite sure I'm not alone facing these bad - very bad - behaviours. --- Main question : how to get calc projects that aren't require GPU ? Hope my major problem will be heard by a interested mind. --- David_83470 |

If i understand correcty you are looking on the wrong place that´s why it´s not working. Since you have a NVidia GPU the project send you GPU work unless you say to it not to send. If you realy don´t want to crunch in your GPU just: Go to your SETI@Home preferencies page: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/prefs.php?subset=project Unselect the GPU work: Use NVIDIA GPU Enforced by version 6.10+ NO After your next host contact to the servers, SETI will not send more NVidia GPU work to your host, but that afect only the new work, whatever you have in the cache is not afected, so you could go to the task page and select all of them and push the abort buttom, they will be aborted and the next time your host contact with the servers, and they receive the message they will automaticaly clear them from your cache and send them to other host to crunch. After that your host will happy crunch CPU work only. |

One more thing to verify: on the task bar, click Activity and be sure the "Use GPU based on preferences" is selected. This bit me in my derriere a couple of weeks ago because I didn't have it selected properly. Best wishes. |
