I have a couple 650Ti cards due in next week, and have the time and ability to restart a system from scratch if needed. Preference on OS? I have MSDN account so can install anything from XP to Server 2012 R2. Linux is on the table as well if is more efficient for the projects. As it stands the 2 cards would go in this system http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/show_host_detail.php?hostid=7243183 I have a couple systems as a base to put the cards in. Athlon II X4 630 Opteron 6128 (has x8 slots but shouldn't be an issue) |

In my test lab I use ghost images of various OS. Testing with various versions of Windows I didn't find any advantage when using one version over another. Normally I just run Windows 7 x64 on them when the machines are not needed for anything else. My GPU experience - limited to NVidia cards - suggested that XP is more efficient, because of the simpler driver model. |
