Honestly don't know what to say on this one... yet... need to have a bit of a think...

Serious fraud trial stopped... for lack of money... sort of

British Prime Minister David Cameron is dealt an embarrassing blow by his own brother, as a complex fraud trial is stopped due to the government's legal aid cuts.

Ouch, that hurt!

That hit home as I received an e-mail only this morning (09:12 GMT).

I have a family who 15 years ago became customers of mine. Now, they are no longer treated as customers but friends & they regard me as part of the family. They really are the most adorable people one can meet.

The problem is that the youngest fell in love with what she thought was a decent guy. Unfortunately, it turned into a mess that has just got messier.

Her ex-husband is an illegal & his bail ran out on 29/4/14 & the case has been adjourned until mid-July. He has abused her, raped her constantly and has attempted to take the daughter out of the country. He is getting legal aid yet the family, a decent hard working one cannot get legal aid?

Just WTH does that say about this country?

Edited for spelling.

Sorry Sirius. I know many people who have been denied legal aid right at the outset. No one speaks for them. We do seem to have got our priorities in a bit of twist I must say.

I'm now going to have to apologise to you again... was going to post it in the "throw the first stone thread" but the trouble is... it's not a stone

No need to apologise and poor old Nigel is not the first & will not be the last I'm afraid.

I can't say much more about the case as I'm involved but I would love to be 20 years younger and still in the army...

..I would dearly love to stick the barrel of an SLR up where the sun never shines in all men that continuously hold their brains between their legs.

I think rapists should serve a minimum of 10 years & on release get branded...

...with myself being the only authorised brander in the country...

...I'll do the job for free & with gusto!

No, he lashed out like the trade union bully he was. Nice example to show the country don't you think?

My opinion on trade unions is a matter of public record (stop going on strike when i'm trying to get home!)

I'm not actually sure what I'd do if I was hit by an egg... suppose I could try throwing one at myself and see...

Well the current deterrents don't work and neither do some of the police it seems.

Police failing to record 20 per cent of crime

The police are failing to record more than 700,000 offences - including cases of rape and serious sexual offences - according to the first official inquiry into crime reporting.

I imagine it can be a very demoralising job when the courts and the legal aid system aren't able to back them up. :(

What politicians really think of us.....

Nickerless does not wear pants...so he can't be accused of carrying a knife

...and what they think of themselves...

"‘Nick Clegg said “we haven’t discussed it and I am not going to have it discussed”.

‘He said “I’m in charge of this committee – forget it”. It was unbelievable.’"

Legislation needs to be carefully planned and all its wider implications discussed and considered, rather than rushed through as a knee-jerk to one tragic incident.
Although, given that the previous link went to the Daily Mail, i wouldn't be surpised if Clegg was actually in favour, wasn't on the committee, had discussed the idea, and Chris Grayling hadn't proposed any new legislation.

On a side note, don't David Laws and Danny Alexander have terrible handwriting...

I do like this comment though...

"They waited years to get into government so they could show the electorate that they were a creditable party and then let an idiot like Clegg loose, As the old saying goes, if you give an idiot power sooner or later he will do idiotic things,"

In the US of A the Internal Revenue Service can and will empty one's bank account. The US doesn't have a VAT so the reporting of income, not reported by an employer, and deductions claimed relies on the honor system. In the US the IRS is one scary "service".

Further proof that the civil service is riddled with useless serpents...

British passport sir? That'll be £500 please

Keeping one's community clean & tidy will get you a criminal record

What a lovely message for her three children

Yep, definitely time for a military coup...

Blow up the Euro Tunnel

No more regional police services but a national police force & paramilitary at that

Just wonder how many will want to enter illegally then?

Why Natural England are proposing the destruction of birds eggs and nests.

Yep.

I absolutely love this comment: -

"The main threat here is greed and that is who you are soon to vote for.
You should consider that.
Politicians come cheap but as far as they are concerned so does life at all ends of the spectrum.
Perhaps if the law allowed destruction of pests and included politicians as a target species then I’d be alright with this change."

Someone on a healthy backhander no doubt.

I believe the first three bullet points, the council always have H&S concerns over everything. As for criminal convictions, if that happens i'll eat my hat.

What a lovely message for her three children
A tragic accident yes, but she didn't exactly walk free. And given that no-one can prove exactly what caused the accident, if they'd imprisoned her no doubt the Mail would run a story about how this innocent mother had been taken away from her children, police state, country going to the dogs, etc.
