Message 1502148 - Posted: 10 Apr 2014, 14:19:26 UTC - in response to Message 1502143.

Any other councils in the UK doing this?

Just received in the post today....

Good news and bad news from the city council budget

Brown bin garden waste collection service - £39.00 charge

The conservative council has introduced a charge for the collection of your garden waste. It is proposed to start charging residents (£39) for this service from 27th May. Residents who sign up for this service will receive a £3 discount.
Yes, you can opt out of having the brown bin collected, this is purely an "opt-in" service.

Each household that opts in and pays for the service will be sent a special identifying sticker.

What next? A special sticker that states this resident pays all bills on time, owes us not a penny so please remove the large rod stuck where the sun don't shine?

Edit:

It won't be long before all services to be paid for individually so leaving the annual council tax to pay for their pensions 100% rather that the current 25%.

Don't worry - when it comes to us paying for air - those of us who can't or won't will just need a tag around one big toe.

Well - it seems quite a few are doing it Sirius judging from a quick search :( Just when I thought they were trying to encourage people to separate their rubbish too! So this is the slippery slope then because surely garden waste is the cleanest most productive waste of all? Unless...

...Curious as to what exactly these brown bins are for? Strictly garden waste? Our brown bins are for food and kitchen waste and boy they don't half pong - especially as they're frequently not collected when they're supposed to be - which in the summer makes it's more pleasant to shove your head down the toilet than pop it outside. I do feel sorry for my sister. She lives downwind of a facility near Bedford, where a large proportion of London's food waste get's taken to. I do feel right at home when I visit her.

PS. Now I know I'm old... I'm talking about bins :)

Hmmn, I'm a volunteer from Dyno-Rod. Can I shove a large rod where the sun don't shine?

Hopefully you'll have better luck than me, there's still ~30 feet of dyno-rod stuck in the drains under my house after one snapped.

Oh please don't tell me that the British conservatives are jumping on the 'Christians got it so bad, everyone hates us' bandwagon like they did in the United States.

Surprised it's taken them this long Мишель. Damage limitation is what it is - there's been so much criticism of the harm some of their policies are inflicting that a couple of high up church people sort of noticed because of the increased din - and got critical too. I'm sure everyone's feeling a lot better about everything after a visit to the trough though :)

Maybe Cameron is lining up a job in Tony Blair's church - err, foundation - for when he gets voted out of office.

I'm sorry to hear about your drains Simonator :( For a moment I was going to suggest getting hold of a pest control firm... mainly because dear old David said:

“...think of me as a giant Dyno-Rod,"

and 30 feet could be considered giant... But no... it can't be the same dyno rod can it? :)

Do we have another UKIP convert?

Sacked for saying "About Time" regarding Ms Miller

Another one that thinks Cleggie is a nutball :-)

Edit: Really does make one wonder!!!

Police on gardening watch rather than do the job they're paid to do

Told the officers that turned up earlier that my hedges are okay thank you very much! Didn't go down very well and was about to castigate me until I showed him my phone log.

They got very respectful seeing that, unfortunately for them, I have made an official complaint & also contacted the Daily Mail.

The police were in attendance due to my neighbour being found dead. As it was a serious suspicious death & I reported the incident on 18th March this year where the poor guy was threatened by 3 heavies & it was never followed up. Can't say any more at this time.

What's that got to do with the link? Simple, I'm in Cambridgeshire!

I chuckled when I saw that picture.

@Sirius, that tweet about hedges may have sounded a little stupid, the idea behind it is not. Showing that people live in a home does act like a deterrent. That is why we turn on the lights and close the curtains in our house in the living room even when there is no one at home or sitting downstairs. From the outside it looks like people are sitting in the living room. Useful deterrent.

What being Liberal in Britain really means...

Nah, can't be true can it?

Nickerless Clegg: The man who knew nothing

More questions for Nickerless

2015 is definitely going to be a good year (but just a blimp for the LD's).

Foreign Aid increased

"Many Conservative backbenchers are incensed that the Coalition has protected aid spending at a time when public services are facing stringent cuts."

One really has to admire the nerve of the current muppets in power...

Fox in charge of the henhouse

"The shadow chief secretary to the Treasury, Chris Leslie, said: "It is astonishing that the prime minister and the chancellor could appoint someone who went bankrupt owing so much to the Treasury, to run the Treasury's lending operations."

Mr Leslie added that he thought this was a mistake "by a prime minister with a track record of poor judgement in relation to his cronies"."

Well, what was you expecting? An Easter Bunny? :-)

Easter message from our Prime Minister folks :)

"evangelical about Christianity" Will Christianity win it for Cameron? Clever twist, desperation, or genuinely heartfelt? :)

And how's this:

Can Obama's Axelrod help Labour? Clever twist, desperation, or miracle? :)

Nothing on Farage just yet (he's a bit busy getting legal advice I think) and Clegg... well he's either dropped off the radar or is keeping a low profile - but I'm sure he'll be along at some point.

Just trying out some balanced reporting folks. Hope no one minds :)

Ooops - all from Channel Four News though. I'd better check out some other sources then :)

"David Cameron appears the opposite. Nearing the end of his first term, doing God it seems, could offer a path to securing a second."

Yes, God help us!

Update on that...

Cameron risks alienation

Comment excerpt...

"This is first and foremost a Christian country. Henry VIII got it right. There is no harm in there being other religions here but please respect the country you are in..."

It certainly is time... for this country to wake up

""This is a high-security prisoner. As a bare minimum he will be costing the taxpayer £50,000 a year to be kept incarcerated, he is the architect of his own situation and we are in despair," he told BBC Radio 4's Today.

"It does nothing for the morale and motivation of staff."

Mr Wylde was still awaiting compensation, he said.

"Meanwhile, a court sees it quite fit to pay £800 for nail clippers. We are in despair.""

The human rights brigade notches up another win
