Well it's nice to know that I'm not drinking alone. :-)

I just had my youngest son drop in on his way home and hopefully that'll be the last distraction I have today, if I'm really lucky I might make it through until tomorrow night.

Time for another refill.

Cheers.

I'll be back in a bit, need to go to the store for some bread in the morning.

Will have a beer waiting for you on your return :) I have to go feed a friend's cat in a little while. The fire alarm in her flat is doing that horrible beeping every few seconds, which suggests it needs a new battery, but can't get the stupid thing open to shut it up - so the cat is getting progressively more bonkers every visit.

Just hoping the neighbours aren't too :/

I'll have to hit the local supermarket myself in the morning Grant, thankfully that's just on the other side of the road.

Annie some of those alarms really need a good tug to open them up (why some are made like that is beyond me).

Time for another refill and then I might grab 1 of them power naps.

Cheers.

I'll give it a try, thanks Wiggo. I must say i've given a few of my own more than a good tug believe me - but I'm a bit of a girl when it comes to taking a hammer to someone elses :)

You have to remove the battery or it won't shut up if the battery is low.
knowing me and the store I can't just buy one thing, they had my favorite chili on sale dirt cheap. Got a case of them. :)) Dirt cheap is good !

Now back to my beer

My trip across the road to the supermarket is usually dependent on milk and tobacco which works out to twice each week so I get anything else I need at those times.

If it wasn't for my youngest son turning up when he did I probably would've already have had that nap, but now I'm to engrossed in the car race atm (I likely grab a short 1 once the race is done).

Cheers.

tobacco and beer is my one stop shopping but I like going into the big store late at night, I have the whole place to myself. Open 24/7

Shopping for beer is something that I don't have to worry about here, but after I get this spirit wash out of the way this week I'll have to get myself a couple of cans of beer wort next week and crank up beer production again.

Cheers.

A quick Google shows that you have plenty of Home Brewing Supply outlets over there, but the methods over there don't look to be as simple as here from what I've looked at (a bit more work seems to be involved).

This is very close to what I do and uses the same lager wort, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T1l1oCyCZKo.

But you should be able to borrow books on the subject from your local library before contemplating doing it (instead of buying the books from a supply store).

Cheers.

I've helped others make it, and wine, but never done so myself from scratch - apart from a guava wine once (not quite sure what I was thinking but we did have a lot of spare guava's) It sort of turned nuclear on me and refused to stay contained in anything I put it. Dogs were so terrified of entering the house I ended up abandoning the whole project. :)

Before bottling you should've used a beer & wine hydrometer to make sure that the specific gravity of it was low enough before you bottled it Annie (you'd have to Google the value for that recipe, but it should've been somewhere between 990 and 1010). ;-)

:) yes... I wish I'd known you then Wiggo... because it was definitely a substance that had some very specific issues relating to gravity and a determination to escape it :) Wonder if NASA could have used it as a propellant?

Not doing the specific gravity test is the main reason that most people blow bottles up (the brew has not finished brewing yet), the 2nd reason is over priming of the bottles (if priming is needed) and the 3rd reason is storing the full bottles in a place that is far to warm. ;-)

[edit]BTW, beer and ginger beer should have a specific gravity of 1010.

Cheers.

I'm not a wine maker myself, or wine type maker like your guava wine Annie, but I believe that the specific gravity variance in wine making is that 990 means that it'll be a dry wine while 1010 produces a sweet wine (I'm sure that any wine maker here will correct me if I'm wrong though).

Cheers.

interesting. Just woke up it is 3:34 AM on the west coast Canada.
