I thought having the screen saver engaged would reduce the amount of work that could be completed? Not by much. It is true that the graphics application runs on the CPU and that it therefore takes CPU cycles away from the science applications, but these cycles are minute in number. When you run the graphics application and check the amount of CPU cycles it takes in the monitor (or top, or Windows task manager), you'll see that it's perhaps 1 to 3 cycles every minute. Not much. |

Thanks Bob. I just did the same (upgraded to 7.4.12) and agree that the screensaver (at least so far) works normally. Thank you! |

I have the most recent version of BOINC and I'm still having the problems described above, so I don't think the problem is fixed. This is the first time I'm running it on my new Macbook Pro; on my previous machine, with a previous BOINC version, it worked without a hitch. Edit: forgot to add the important part. Uninstalling the new version and downgrading to 7.0.65 eliminated the screensaver problem. |

I have the most recent version of BOINC The 'most recent version of BOINC' on the Mac is also still 7.2.42, which has the problem. It is fixed in the present 7.4 betas. But just hold off on updating till that's released. |

Regarding the screen saver: I've temporarily uninstalled Boinc (slowing my machine down too much - I'll be back later) - I still get a 'you cannot use the boincsaver screen saver with this version of Mac OSX, etc' on my screen when I'd ordinarily go to the screensaver. I've deleted everything I can find that related to Boinc, but the message persists. How can I get rid of it? |

It should be in either the /Library/Screen Savers or ~/Library/Screen Savers You should be able to trash it from there. |

Thanks - I've dumped everything relevant from Library, but the problem persists. |
