It's Mountains, Narrow Valley's, and DEEP Caves!!! Bombs and missiles have limited effect.

It is an Infantry Fight. Tanks?

Enough!

Uh yeah no, its not just an entire country consisting of mountains, valleys and caves. Just look at Satellite maps of the place. And the US commanders thought that tanks could play no effective role in Korea either during the Korean war. Turned out they were wrong when tanks did a pretty good job during the war.

Furthermore, if you were to look at Afghanistan, that country is about as much mountains, valleys and caves as North Korea and that never stopped the US from invading and occupying the country.

Tank on tank encounters happend quite freguently during Korea Soviet T34 tanks Versus M26 Pershings. When in the Air Force I worked with two civillians who enlisted in the Marines and were sent to Inchon as tankers. I also new a Marine who was a Viet Nam Marine who was a tanker. He was in the M60 Flame thrower tank. He was there during TET.
Both Korea and Viet Nam had terrain where tanks were very viable.

And I agree with Мишель If we had to go into N. Korea we would win. Yes it would be a tough fight. Lets Hope China has the sense to reel in its dog before they get bit.

That 1/2 of the world is one big mess; too bad US share the other 1/2. The biggest conflict here is US and Cuba resulting in no Havana cigars for US.

North Korea’s Kim Jong-un ‘executes by firing squad’ engineers blamed for apartment collapse.

NORTH Korean despot Kim Jong-un has reportedly executed engineers who worked on an apartment block that collapsed last week, killing an estimated 500 people.

The 23-storey building went down in the capital Pyongyang, triggering a rare public apology from the North Korean regime.

Kim was reportedly unable to sleep after hearing about the collapse of the newly-built block that was said to have been home to top intelligence and police officials, as well as a large number of the ruling party elite.

It's a wonder that anyone would do anything over there where even just breathing could get you in front of a firing squad. :-(

Cheers.

That building housed high party officials, police and military officers. This couldn't be kept quiet. It appears even a dictator has to be a politician.

You do see in such countries that bureaucracies and state institutions work incredibly inefficient, since everyone is to afraid to show any initiative that could be perceived wrongly and end up with you staring down a squad of soldiers. So everything that is not specifically in the job description gets passed on to superiors, who pass it on to their superiors. So in the end, most of the country is run by a bunch of high level bureaucrats who do a bad job.

Good Lord!

Are you actually admitting that centralizing power and control is a bad thing?

I must be reading it wrong...

Yep, you are reading it wrong.

This has nothing to do with centralization of power but with the bureaucratic culture that a particular regime creates. You would not see such issues when making mistakes while showing initiatives isn't punished with death. And the amount of mistakes is going to be less if bureaucracies select people on the basis of their competences and not their loyalty to the regime.

In other words, a democratic state with a strong attachment to the rule of law and human rights combined with elements of a meritocratic system could safely centralize a lot of power without feeling the effects in its bureaucratic system.

I certainly doesn't help when your workforce is kept in poverty.

While the secretive state has given no reason for the collapse, it is likely due to bad workmanship. Construction workers are believed to frequently steal materials like steel and cement from building sites to sell off on the black market.

So those poor engineers probably faced the firing squad for something that wasn't their fault in the 1st place.

Cheers.

It seems like Kim Jong-un may have a new toy in his arsenal.

http://www.news.com.au/world/north-korean-propaganda-film-gives-glimpse-of-new-cruise-missile-used-to-target-ships/story-fndir2ev-1226959317675

The new missile appears for just a second during a 50-minute propaganda film shown that was shown on state TV, and flashed across the screen in between scenes of Kim Jong-un, soliders and military equipment,..

The new weaponry is believed to be similar to the Russian KH-35 missile, which skims over the ocean in order to target ships,..

It is likely to be a modified version of the KH-35, which has a range of 130 kilometres, say experts.

I wonder if he'll use 1 to execute another of his general staff.

Cheers.

That's what I can't understand. Surely those generals know that, so how come one of them hasn't bumped him off before now?

After all, if they mess up, they know what will happen to them, so might as well take him with them.

I notice wherever Junior goes he is surrounded by generals taking notes of his every whim. One may say he is a dictating dictator.
