Most countries would be upset with missiles landing in their territory. Up until these recent events, I thought North Korea was just firing duds into their own or neutral waters.
The mind is a weird and mysterious place

Until recently they were. Now it seems as if they are getting the range to land on something besides empty ocean.

As to a country being upset by missiles landing in their territory, can you imagine the reaction if Japan was Israel?

M5.3 Explosion - 19km ENE of Sungjibaegam, North Korea

http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/A/AS_KOREAS_TENSIONS?SITE=AP&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT&CTIME=2016-09-08-23-02-32
SEOUL, South Korea (AP) -- North Korea on Friday conducted its fifth atomic test, producing its biggest-ever explosive yield, South Korean officials said after monitors detected unusual seismic activity near the North's northeastern nuclear test site.

South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff said in a statement that "artificial seismic waves" from a quake measuring 5.0 were detected near the Punggye-ri test site.

The South's Defense Ministry said it believed the North conducted a nuclear test, while European and U.S. monitoring services also detected similar seismic activity, with the U.S. Geological Survey calling it an "explosion" on its website.

A second North Korean nuclear test this year would raise serious worries in Washington because the North's nuclear tests are part of a push for a nuclear-armed missile that could one day reach the U.S. mainland. A second nuclear test this year would be a defiant response to Western pressure on Pyongyang to halt its nuclear ambitions. The country has previously conducted tests every three to four years.

A South Korean Defense Ministry official, who refused to be named because of office rules, said that Seoul detected an estimated explosive yield of 10 kilotons and assessed that it was from a nuclear test.

North Korea Missile Dud!

North Korea: US says it detected failed missile test

North Korea has conducted an unsuccessful test launch of an intermediate ballistic missile, the US military says.

The Musudan missile has an estimated range of up to 4,000 km (2,500 miles), enough to hit South Korea, Japan and the US territory of Guam.

Pyongyang has not reacted to the news.

The country has made a number of missile-related tests this year, despite being banned by the UN from any use of ballistic or nuclear technology.

It comes amid concerns that the country may soon launch another long-range rocket or conduct a nuclear test.

https://www.rt.com/news/362896-russian-border-patrol-north-korea/
Russian border patrol was forced to open fire during inspection of a fishing vessel with North Korean crew onboard. The crew resisted search, behaved aggressively, and tried to flee with the members of the Russian security forces on board, according to the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB).

One Russian border patrol officer and nine North Korean fishermen were injured in the stand-off. One of the injured fishermen later died in the hospital.

The incident happened on Friday evening at 22:20 Moscow time (19:20 GMT) in Russia’s exclusive economic zone in the country’s Far East, according to the FSB statement, released online on Saturday. The term "exclusive economic zone" describes an area of coastal water in a certain distance from the country’s shore, where the respective state has exclusive rights for fishing and other economic activities.

North Korea Musudan missile fails post-launch, says US

An intermediate-range missile fired by North Korea failed straight after its test launch, according to the US and South Korea.

The missile, believed to be a Musudan, is said to have been launched from the western city of Kusong.

It was there that North Korea tried and failed to launch the same type of missile on Saturday, according to US and South Korea's military officials.
