I'm with you Clyde Sony has more prob's than a hacker . I also don't think Sony care that much about a threat like this . I reackon the hackers got info on Sony that Sony doesn't whant to be released and that's why they canned it's release. or this is some sort of sting to make them think they have won , but the F.B.I or C.I.A are doing something to catch them .I say that because there still selling tickets over here for the jan 15th release ..............

I noticed the presedent almost laughed at this threat in the interveiw they showd on the news

Yeah, it isn't like they have Nukes or an army or anything thing like millions of followers ready to die for a supreme leader.

Shall I remind you of the visit by the DPRK's diplomats to a barber shop? http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-london-27038723

That story is funny . Still a silly threat . If push came to shove nothing would happen .Kim mite seem to be a nutter but i don't think he's that stupid as to realy do something . North Korea are all noise . Attcking south Korea has not lead to a invasion . lope a few missile over the boarder maybe kill a few people but it never goes much father than that . he knows if it came to a real fight he will lose . But then again the great sear did say the mongal king would make a premtive strick against the west so i guess we better be carefull

He already did, ask Sony. And he didn't even try to do damage. Consider if he had emptied their bank accounts at the same time he took down their network? (Maybe screw with the banks network too!) Suppose he corrupted a years worth of backups? How about hacking those digital movie servers to play DPRK subliminal messages? Changes to every movie in post production? Having the drives in a server case look for resonant frequencies and walk across the room? He just published the stuff, he didn't actually try and do damage and he had access to do damage!

However it is a big wake up call to business that anyone can at any time close them down. Better get some real expert IT in place. Think of what he could do to a power grid, air traffic control, traffic and train signals, a refinery, or an operating reactor! Get a good nights sleep.

gary your going a bit overboard mate . The threat was to do a 911 ! fly a plane into a cinema not screw around with the power grid which i doubt he can do . It's one thing to hack Sony whom have been hacked before by others . So i don't think they would be able to hack the power grid or much else .

Sony has needed to do some real work on there systems for a long while in other words it was a soft target to hack if there so good at hacking why haven't they stuffed the banks up already and brought down the power grid airports and other infrastructure because it's not so easy to do but a silly company that has been hacked on a regular basis is easy to hack .

What wrong with everyone these days , someone threatens us and we give in where has the backbone gone to stand up against these type of people .

The threat was something was going to happen on Christmas day. He didn't specify what. As anyone knows today, he could not fly airplanes from there to targets in the USA with any chance of success. He might have some sleepers in the USA that could leave bombs at some scattered locations. Or he could sit back and have a few operatives type on their keyboards.

As to the power grid, unfortunately, it may be childs play to take it down. Even getting into one small private power company should be enough to cause a cascade failure. You don't have to hack the central control station. Look at how they got into Target, through an air conditioner!

It is the attitude of complacency that will be the attack vector.

The problem is that there are thousands of artillery tubes pointed at Seoul from within the North Korean border. Seoul is within range.

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2014/12/19/intel-report-north-korea-planned-attacks-on-us-nuclear-plants/
North Korea dispatched covert commando teams to the United States in the 1990s to attack nuclear power plants and major cities in a conflict, according to a declassified Defense Intelligence Agency report.

The DIA report, dated Sept. 13, 2004, reveals that five units of covert commandos were trained for the attacks inside the country.

According to the report, the "Reconnaissance Bureau, North Korea, had agents in place to attack American nuclear power plants."

The document states that the North Korean Ministry of People's Armed Forces, the ministry in charge of the military, "established five liaison offices in the early 1990s, to train and infiltrate operatives into the United States to attack nuclear power plants and major cities in case of hostilities."

"One of the driving forces behind the establishment of the units and infiltration of operatives was the slow progress in developing a multi-stage ballistic missile."

North Korea is known to have at least two long-range missiles capable of hitting the United States, the Taepodong-2 intercontinental ballistic missile, and the KN-08 road-mobile ICBM, which has not yet been flight tested.

The report indicates that power plants would be targeted for attack "in the event of hostilities between the United States and DPRK" -- the acronym for the Democratic People's Republic of North Korea.

If they know they exist, they know who they are. If the report is declassified, they aren't in the country. As to why you wouldn't kick them out, you don't want to tell you enemy that your are reading their encrypted traffic. Counter intelligence.

But then again what can we expect from the C.I.A or F.B.I they haven't been able to stop the nutters so far

It would be the NSA and CIA. FBI does bank robbers, except bank presidents. Bank presidents are done by OCC. Yes our government has too many departments and too many left and right hands that haven't a clue as to what the other is doing.

Just a question, after thinking about this:
What idiot's, at Sony, decided a film about the Assassination of a Murdering Dictator, should be a COMEDY?
Sony has more problems than North Korean Hacks.

I agree. But on the other hand it's been done before.

Saw that Great Film many years ago.

Jack Oakie's Mussolini was just as great as Chaplin's Hitler.

Yeah but the great difference was that Chaplin never actually directly referenced Hitler as Hitler. The guy had a different name and that gets you away with a lot. Unlike this movie which is actually about a real, existing dictator and who gets called out as such. And I think its bad taste to make movies about killing real people unless it was based on true events or something. Even if the guy you are 'killing' is a terrible person in real life.

Also, I do believe that a movie like 'The Great Dictator' has infinitely more brains to it than this movie. But thats not really an argument.

This attack, by the Criminal North Korean Government, against the Fundamental Freedoms of The West - An Act of War - may need an 'Interesting' response.

Everyone should understand that Every Response contemplated, may have negative consequences.

But one, or more, will have to be chosen.

Just the nature of The Universe.

Well before you go saying this was an act of war and stuff, lets consider the fact that we don't even know for sure that it was North Korea. And even if the attack was based in North Korea, we also don't know for sure it was a government sanctioned attack or simply something done by some individual.

In any case, I think the evidence that suggests North Korea was behind this is weak at best. Why would they hack Sony? Because of just that one movie? The hack did a lot more than just publish details about that movie. And why hack Sony? I mean, this movie and its content was public knowledge. No need to hack Sony and then threaten them with 9/11 scale attacks if they released the movie.

NK is crazy, but this is more getting into the realm of whimsical and pointless than just crazy.

Unless they take that as a reason for a tit for tat.

Perfection would be getting inside their botnet command and control so any attack they attempt to launch on someone, actually launches it against themselves.
