We had a very minor oopsie at the museum over the weekend. No one hurt, nothing derailed, not even any bangs. Just a rules violation. But now the crew caller is scrambling.

(I wasn't involved. Whew!)

Here's 1 from Australia.

http://www.couriermail.com.au/news/queensland/constable-kenric-head-surprised-to-find-driver-of-the-kenworth-truck-carrying-ammonium-nitrate-alive-after-blast/story-fnihsrf2-1227053078856

CONSTABLE Kenric Head was certain everyone was dead until he saw a figure lying wrapped in a tattered blanket blink and heard those magic words: “I have got a f---ing headache.”

It was just after 10pm on Friday and 29-year-old Constable Head had just seen one of the most extraordinary sights in his career.

A massive flame had shot in a thin, vertical column hundreds of metres into the western Queensland sky as he was racing to the scene of a truck accident on the Mitchell Highway, 30km outside Charleville.

I find it amazing that no one was killed.

Cheers.

It is really amazing what stunts people get up to after passing their driving test...

The Devil did not want me to park there :-(

""I saw it happen as the lady was trying to straighten up while parking," he said. "One of her legs was out of the car and I think somehow her other foot hit the accelerator and she shot forward hitting the other car at full speed."

The NTSB seems to be investigating this as a plane crash with a bit of assistance from their rail division.

A lot more details and photos. I'm sure the NTSB will study, but probably not have a whole lot to say, about the proximity of the oil train on the next track.

Not a safety thing per se, but Union Pacific has closed its line through Las Vegas due to flooding near Moapa. Interstate 15 is also closed.

Even if there were no passengers, I hope no crew were injured, and I bet that the heads were somewhat busy just after that!

Both Captains and First Officers if each ship should be relieved of duty, pending an investigation. But you will find that 90% of each ships crew won't speak English.

Yeah, one or both of them were out of their traffic lane. Navigator and/or Helmsman/Bridge Watch Officer at fault, most likely.....

Since its a convoy system the ships should have been tracking in the same direction, not one cutting across into the other. Further both ships should have been travelling at the same speed...
Either a mechanical failure, or an officer of the watch not doing their job properly.

The NSW highway patrol takes delivery of Australia's most powerful police car, run if you can.

Cheers.

The vessel on the left was supposed to give way, unless to do so would have run it aground. The vessel on the right was supposed to give way when it became obvious that the vessel on the left wasn't going to do so.

So no matter which ship was initially at fault, BOTH can be cited for failing to take action to avoid the collision, right? And yes, I know how long it takes to slow or turn one of those behemoths - seems like forever!

As Main Engine Throttleman, I did crashbacks from Ahead Full to Back Emergency on 4 different classes of submarine. Talk about shake, rattle, & roll! Got to be careful not to trip the reactor off-line.......

With political correctness, health & safety gurus & a pyramid of other organisations, you would think that it would have been totally accessible by now.
