How many more doing just that now that Air Travel is an everyday occurrence compared to years ago? Probably being doing that for some time but the airport closure caught them on the hop. Just like the shipping/cruise lines - profits before safety! |

Had I been the pilot of that aircraft I would have said this Sure, as long as you didn't run into the half dozen Blue Angels practicing over the airport. Be interesting to see if a NOTAM was available to the airline. |

News out of the Indian Ocean, they may have found a part of flight MH370, that was a Boeing 777, a 777 wing flap washed up on the shore of Reunion Island. How a humble beach cleaner searching for a stone to crush chillies may have solved the mystery of MH370 by Googling 'plane disasters' after stumbling across 'a weird thing on the shore' Bing Search(MH370, that Boeing 777, a flap) The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |

Train cuts USPS contractor's semi in half. I have to wonder if any of my mail was on board. David Sitting on my butt while others boldly go, Waiting for a message from a small furry creature from Alpha Centauri. |

Sources close to the investigation said initial reports indicate the semi was crossing the tracks when it was struck by the train, but this has not been confirmed by police. Or the train swerved to hit the truck. Only two possibilities I can come up with. |

Very rarely seen these incidents when it was London Transport. Now since deregulation... No serious injuries but... ...again, aren't these bus drivers aware of the height of the vehicle? As it was not a regular bus in service, just like lorry drivers in summer, pull out a bit more, the road is wide enough! Or is it that they are too dumb to think of that & must stay in bus lanes? |

If it's not a sea tragedy it's an air one. That side of the world needs to get its transportation systems sorted... Another air disaster |

If it's not a sea tragedy it's an air one. That side of the world needs to get its transportation systems sorted... One would have to be certified or something to fly on that banned airline, sounds like they could be called CrashesRus, with a backward 'R' like ToysRus uses... I feel for the relatives and the victims aboard those aircraft.. The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |

That side of the world needs to get its transportation systems sorted... Let's remember that Indonesia, Malaysia, and other South Asia nations are not in the same situation as China, South Korea, or Japan. And at the risk of sounding racist/Islamophobic, I have read reports from American military flyers that pilots from Islamic countries have issues with night vision and trainability - they do not fly well at night, and do not retain knowledge, or acquire mechanical skills quickly. My own experience with Iraqi sailors when I was teaching Navy equipment maintenance schools in 1982-1985 conforms to that assessment. Donald Infernal Optimist / Submariner, retired |

Might be related to the general level of education? |

Probably more deep rooted than "religion". Until fairly recently many in these countries lived life on a 12 hours of daylight and then go to sleep cycle as artificial light was a candle or nothing, thus they have never become accustomed to working in low light - unlike those in less tropical climes who spend six months of the year in dull twilight (at the best). This will have two effects, one is a "cultural reluctance", and the other is a possible reduction in ability of eye to work in low light levels. Based on working with and training aviation people from this region for several years, I think the problem is much more complex than the simple answers above. There a lot of issues that combine to produce what we are seeing. There several culteral issues at work, quite independant of religion. In many of these countries you get choice jobs, at least in part, based on who you know, not what you know. Combine this with a general movement to hire locals, and the lack of the kind of technical background that you and I take for granted amongst these locals, and you have a problem. (I grew up around airports, helping my father fix cars and things around the house. Some airline captains in Asia grew up in a village with no electricity, and no cars.) All this is amplified by the incredible economic growth in these regions. Thats why I do some work there, they have the money and they spend it. They have also made the choice to spend their money on their products and people, whether they are up to the job or not. A lot of people from these regions will tell you that the results we see are just the price of progress. Not that long ago that is how people in the western world felt about our accident rates, although not many of us remember that. |

An Italian airline pilot who lives near my brother in Genova says tha pilots from Third World airlines often lack the flight simulator training that first tier airline pilots have to take. He often flies to Ireland to train. Tullio |

Try getting travel insurance to fly third world airlines in the Far East. If British Airways don't go there, neither do I. Oh dear... "Many factual inaccuracies in this report- it its by no means the biggest load ever moved on UK roads - not by height/weight/length or width - shoddy research at the best- it is not going to Cottam but back to Germany where it will be refurbished and redeployed as second hand probably to a developing nation- don't get me wrong Alleys have pulled off a great move, with no incidents and utmost professionalism, it is a shame that the Mails journalists cant work to the same standards." ...have to agree with that comment the DM needs to get its head examined... "Taking that through Bristol would be a hard job, but the heavy loads boys do this day in day out. Why can't stuff be built on site (previous commenter's). It's being RECYCLED. This is 2 of 3. And whoever said why can't it go to Retford by road is a fool." ...seems some people have their brains between their ears :-) |
