Need the right equipment for snow. When you have to build snow sheds on the line because rotary plows can't clear it ... http://www.donnersummithistoricalsociety.org/pages/exhibits/snowsheds.html Donner Summit gets 35-40 feet of snow a year and sometimes 60 or 70 feet. Not so much now that we are in a drought ..... but you snow birds consider, you are on the seventh story and the window looks out into the side of the snow. |

If it wasn't so serious one would cry with laughter. I thought the aim is to provide better public transport thereby causing less congestion & accidents on the road? Buses get parking tickets - for stopping at a Bus Stop |

Sounds like they need to find a compromise, like maybe 5 or 10 minutes, and if the bus gets a ticket for staying longer than that because the new driver is late, he/she pays the fine. Sorry Guv, I ran out of cement I hate web pages that play video ads without asking me, especially with sound and especially more than one of them. David Sitting on my butt while others boldly go, Waiting for a message from a small furry creature from Alpha Centauri. |

No one was arrested? The Bulgarian driver should have been for not securing his vehicle. Rolling backwards? I learnt that years ago while doing my driver training in Folkestone. When parked on a downward slope, never rely on your handbrake/air brakes alone, leave it in reverse & in 1st gear if on an upward slope. |

WATCH: 'Stupid' driver who filmed his own police chase is jailed A driver filmed himself being chased at high speed by police through residential streets before telling arresting officers ‘It was a good chase wasn’t it?’ |

I can't be bothered to comment ... Sounds to me like the Labour are politicizing it by ignoring the part where the proposal says each intersection would be studied to see if this plan would be safe. Still, I agree with them. David Sitting on my butt while others boldly go, Waiting for a message from a small furry creature from Alpha Centauri. |

I can't be bothered to comment ... Well, after the earthquake the signals will be out, better get some practice in treating them like four way stops ....... Oh, I assume by now they are all LED, so they could cut them to half bright in those very dark low traffic hours. Or use the in road sensors to only turn them on when a vehicle is approaching. Oh those push here to cross buttons that don't do anything might have to actually do something as well. <ed>In a lot of the US, the signals go four way flashing red at night, so you don't have to wait a full minute for the signal to change. |

There are two savings, one is the cost of running the lights, this cost is very quantifiable as a direct cost on the whole of society - we all pay a little bit for the energy and maintenance of evry set of lights. The other is the cost of fuel burnt while sitting at a red light when nothing is passing through the junction. The four-way stop (and "right on red") both help in this respect. This saving is less easy to quantify as it is a cost on the vehicle operator. I can think of one set of lights where it would be a saving for the motorist with a very small risk factor (indeed its a set that is regularly jumped as it is so badly phased, indeed turning this set off might be a safety improvement, as folks would expect oncoming traffic....) Something seriously wrong with this report... Aircraft returns to Gatwick after part of wing falls off ...over Belguim when it was reported? Why not land the thing ASAP? Why return to Gatwick? |

Something seriously wrong with this report... Because no part of the wing fell off. Buried deep it called it an "over wing slide" That would be a part of the emergency escape slide for the door over the wing. Mind you headline writers are required to get it wrong to increase circulation. |

Something seriously wrong with this report... That may be true, but with the MH17 & MH370 incidents, shouldn't it be a matter of priority to get the plane on the ground asap, after all, better safe than sorry! |

I can't be bothered to comment ... Perhaps if they didn't have a set of traffic lights every ten yards it wouldn't cost so much. Member of the People Encouraging Niceness In Society club. |
