Is it for food preparation? You could say that, yes. David Sitting on my butt while others boldly go, Waiting for a message from a small furry creature from Alpha Centauri. |

It has been two days with no guesses. It is really time for a hint as nobody is getting it. BOINC WIKI |

It has been two days with no guesses. It is really time for a hint as nobody is getting it. Yeah, I kind of forgot I was still running this thread. I got one PM from someone who knew what it was right off and offered to answer by Friday if no one got it... until I mentioned it's a holiday weekend. But if said person wants to step in now, that would be fine. If you're really eager, try searching a certain popular shopping site for "food magnet". I don't know for sure that it will come up, but I'd put money on it. (I do know that it's sold on more than one site.) If that does work for somebody and I don't respond to their guess in a timely fashion, I hereby authorize the person who PMed me (if present) to confirm the win in my stead, so that the thread can move on. Found it. It is a variety of grease skimmer. Close enough. Called a Fat Magnet. Get it cold and run it across a greasy liquid and it's supposed to congeal the fat against itself. Reviews on Amazon say it doesn't work, probably because it's made of aluminum. Take it away, John. The geometry of the chain and the pivot point tells me the jaws clamp tighter the heavier the load is when lifted by the chain. I have seen similar devices used to hoist large steel plates, but the jaws were a slightly different shape. Maybe this lifts pipe? |

[edit]Nor is it for steel plates[/edit] Hint for the day: The web sites also lists drag as well as lift as tasks it is designed for. BOINC WIKI |
