I have run Seti@home on Macs and PCs for some time. The mod recent is a Mac Mini. The app is processing data, however when I set the screensaver settings to only run the project screensaver, the overview will appear for a few seconds, disappear and then reappear...the project screen save "sometimes" fires for a few seconds and then stops. My settings are:
Run Overview Screensaver: 0 minutes Run Project Screensaver: 60 minutes Switch between Project Screensavers: 0 minutes

Do all of the projects you are crunching for have screen savers? Are you using you GPU for crunching? BOINC WIKI |

There is a problem with the BOINC screen saver since BOINC 7.2.39. The developers know about it, but have no solution yet. There was no fix for it in 7.2.41 See Trac Ticket [trac]#1338[/trac] for possible progress and updates. In the mean time, your only choices are to either set another screen saver than BOINC, or to return to BOINC 7.2.33, which didn't have the problem. The new beta versions of BOINC have this problem as well, so there's no need to update to 7.3.x either. |

... or to return to BOINC 7.2.33, which didn't have the problem. What happens if you save the files boinc.scr and boincscr.exe from 7.2.33 installation then install BOINC 7.2.39 and manually replace those files (both or only one) with the 7.2.33 versions? Aside from platform, eventually we'll go to BOINC 7.4, which uses a new C Runtime Library, a new compiler (VS2010), new wxWidgets, new OpenSSL, new zlib, new libcurl, new sqlite. The BOINC test versions in the 7.3 range all have this flickering screen saver problem as well. Their boinc.scr and boincscr.exe are not backward compatible with the 7.2 range and prior, due to the change of the runtime library and compiler. The boinc.scr and boincscr.exe from an earlier version of BOINC 7.2 are compatible with the later version. They haven't even changed, code wise. Or compiler wise (VS2005). But something, somewhere, causes this flickering, and no one knows why. Have I tested to run BOINC 7.2.42 with the boinc.scr and boincscr.exe from 7.2.33? No. If anyone wants to and report their experience here or on the BOINC forums, be my guest. |
