Message 1483287 - Posted: 1 Mar 2014, 16:23:08 UTC

Tried to copy a link here but that worked NOT a lot. @:@ Sorry

This topic may have already been discussed in the forums - (apologies if so) but was wondering if anyone knew what the impact might be on seti in particular and boincing in general if the world loses a free internet? If money HAD to be forked out in order to be part of seti - I'd rather it was going towards the project not the hijackers

What exactly is this? Hijackers? Free internet? Verizon? A link would be nice. I see you tried to provide one... you can just paste it right in and the forum will convert it to BBCode.

I don't think it would affect SETI much if at all. The SETI servers connect through dedicated infrastructure on a dedicated commercial-grade connection not a public ISP, and the amount of bandwidth we end-users need is minimal; it's designed to be resilient for low/irregular bandwidth and poor connections.

What it will really affect if it goes through is streaming services especially Netflix.

Now it's clickable.....

Having now read the article, I pretty much agree with Kevvy, it won't have much effect on Seti@Home or BOINC. It's more a web-based services issue, and it may well end up like cable, where you have basic services and higher-end services that you pay extra for if you want them at all.

Caveat: I just became a Verizon shareholder, due to the buy-out of Vodafone's 45% stake in Verizon Wireless.

I bow at your feet!

How did you do that?

Thank you. And thank you to everyone who replied. I'll stop worrying now. :)

It appears the only reason this didn't work for you is the carriage return before the closing tag.

What Verizon wants to do is to charge that suppliers of data (i.e. google, youtube, facebook, ...) for Verizon to allow the data from said providers to reach their customers. Verizon would like to do this to protect their own data sources. In other words, they want to charge both ends.

So is that a bit like someone getting charged for making a phonecall, and the person they're calling getting charged for answering it? :/

No split infinitives? Wot a swizz :-)

:) are they important? Bit new... Still have training wheels on my tricycle. Could take them off? Produce some splat infinitives? Like what how I started this thread.

Am I off topic now? Verizon...? (sorted! :))

Splat infinitives sound fun.

to messily eat
to forcefully crash
to splashily dive

What else? (This could be a new thread if anniet doesn't want this one hijacked.)
