We should be able to. But the elders need to safeguard themselves from falling into the trap of "Wasn't like this in my day ..." and give advice that is relevant in the 21C. Just because it worked for you way back when, doesn't mean that it's any good now. I do try to bear that in mind.

But there are limits. You won't catch me going down the High Street giving a high five and saying "Hey Bruv, that's a well wicked pair of 110's innit!". Round my way that's 11 year old schoolgirls. Makes you think that some parents should have a licence to breed.

Right, the 'digital generation' these days will just look it up on the net when they search for answers. But things like values, respect and trust can't be googled I'm afraid...

Cheers.

I must say I have never watched the Disney channel nor have my children, and after reading that I am really glad.

One thing that used to really anger me about programs targeted at children (including for the really young ones) was the quantity of advertising that was broadcast throughout the schedule. We're not talking adverts for toothpaste, milk, books etc. Marketing at its most cynical and ugliest!

Thanks for drawing attention to the Disney Channel thing, David. Very revealing :/

It is also useful to read this link because people often get confused between them. Bipolar is the modern usage of the condition known as manic depressive and DID is what used to be known as split personality. The changes came about because unfortunately society still stigmatises sufferers to some degree. It is similar to Mongolism now being called Down's Syndrome because it was seen as offensive.

Why does society make life so difficult for those seen as different?

Personality disorders

The title of your link is a little misleading, lol. Personality Disorders is a different label than multiple personality disorder.

Sociopaths, narcissists and psychopaths fall under the personality disorder umbrella and they are people you should avoid if possible. There behaviour cannot be modified with drugs or therapy and they can ruin your life.

That is different from multiple personality disorders or schizophrenia which can be helped with medication.

:(

Honestly - social is NOT what social media is.

... if you passive-aggressively dump your high school girlfriend on social media, you’ll earn 3,000 new Internet friends and become a hero in your hometown. Isn’t the World Wide Web a wonderful place?

I'd be utterly ashamed of myself if either of my children did anything like that. :(

Parenthood...the facts...

...is simply that many "mature adults" fail to realise that with all their objections to children, that they were children themselves...

...saying that though, it's quite possible that "these" mature adults were actually cloned a la "Invasion of the body snatchers"...

...with some attitudes on these boards, I would not be at all surprised.

I suspect that if a two year old handed an adult a toy phone - they'd be making "brrrrrrrrrrinnnnggggg brrrrrrrrrrinnnnggggg" noises and start talking into it without a second's thought :)

There's a child inside us all... :) it's just that once we grow up we can't get someone bigger than us to beat each other up :) (not that I would ever want to of course :))

Late edit :) in case anyone is thinking of arguing with me :)
