Too late. Now I don't want any APs. I've just bought myself a parachute, and will crunch MB only, until I reach the ground :-)

Since I upgraded my HTPC to as i5-4670K I have had it only doing MB on it's CPU & GPU. I'm waiting for it to level out so I can see the difference between it and my gaming machine which is running the same setup but is allowed AP work. So far I saw my gaming machine around 9k & my HTPC is just around 3K.

Now that the AP server has been replaced I should get a good grasp in the next few weeks how much extra the AP gives.

The next few weeks may not be representive of "normal" operations, because we have a small backlog of files for AP splitting. Thus, the next few weeks should see more AP tasks available than a typical 2 week period. You can probably adjust for that when you assess results.

I've picked a few freshly split AP tasks, but that creation rate just doesn't seem to want to get up and go.

I wonder when they'll update the spec's for the new Marvin on the SS page?

Cheers.

The machines have only been going a few weeks and have yet to level off in anyway. So in a few weeks I can starts to track their numbers more accurately. Depending on how the servers are feeling anyway.
A long term evaluation isn't really a problem for me either way.

You aborted a bunch of MB WU so now the servers hate you.

Don't think of it as a parachute, think of it as a load of fuel for the ooooold video arcade game Lunar Lander, and you're aiming for one of the higher landing spots.

I always check the Cricket before diving into my account and then the message boards, and I knew APs had to be flowing again when I saw the current level at over 200.

They've invented a new status for the servers. In addition to "online" and "offline" we now have "comprehensively discombobulated".

From front page

The machine that serves the boinc database crashed a few hours ago. The project is down until the database recovery is complete.

Last check of the SSP showed the Master still offline. Are we working off the backup?

I suppose it's more likely that the master came up since the SSP updated.

Yes, everything was running fabulously well for the last two days, that seems to be about the limit, currently...

Seems to be a lot of server crashes lately, I just have to wonder how well the COLO facility is looking after them.

Cheers.

No, the Master is still disabled. We must be running on the backup.

Lets see if I can get my RAC back up again now that we have AP work.

I even updated my app to use on them.

Why not limit AP work only to GPU?

It could reduce the imbalance beetween processing power in MB and AP

Now that is the silliest suggestion that I've heard so far.

Cheers.

From what I understand, the COLO provides, rack space, solid power, AC and a big fast pipe to the outside world. Plus someone who can reboot a server if it cannot be rebooted remotely.

It does not provide new hardware, that is the same as was in the lab and is nothing to do with the COLO

I am sure the guys at the COLO do not have direct access to login into the servers and do not monitor each one. That is the job of the owners, in this case SET@Home.

As I see it the problems are still 100% SETI hardware or software, COLO has no bearing on the current problems
