I normally dont have a time set for my screen saver. I actually have a button on my keyboard that I push to start my screensaver. I recently have started up doing the Seti@home again, and was trying to figure out if I can set up my keyboard to have it only run when I hit my button. I don't really want to have it running in the background at all times...really only when I'm away from my computer. Is there a way that I can do this or do I just have to bind the button to the BOINC Manager and resume it from there? Thanks in Adavnce! |

So, before you installed BOINC, which was the screensaver that was started by button on the keyboard? Do you manually choose some .scr file to be started by this button? The file that have to be started to run the BOINC screensaver is this: C:\WINDOWS\boinc.scr Mind that screensaver is only pretty picture, it is not needed for the calculations. But probably you mean something completely different? You may want to change: "Suspend work while computer is in use?" ... found in your Computing preferences  - ALF - "Find out what you don't do well ..... then don't do it!" :)  |

I did have a .scr(ribbons) set to a button on my keyboard. I did try having it set to the Boinc.scr file and all I got was stats of my current file being processed. Would be nice to have the graphic...lol I do have my preferences set to only work when not in use now...thanks for letting me know where to find that! |

To get to see the Seti screen saver, you may need patience. First the BOINC screen saver starts, and it'll switch over to the project screen saver, if the project has a graphics application. Seti does so. You can set all the switch times in the BOINC screen saver Settings. See http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/BOINC_screensaver#Screensaver_Settings for what all the options do. The project screen saver will now only work when the computer is idle. So when you now test, you'll have to stay off the keyboard/mouse for the time you set between when BOINC should start when the computer is idle, and the time it takes for the screen saver to start. |
