I ride a bike. Been riding on and off for 40 years, I'm 56 now. Current bike is a Harley Davidson custom Sportster. It's my 27th bike but my first Harley.

It never snows here so we can ride all year round if you dont mind getting cold or rained on in winter.

In the mid-1970s, when I was in the US Navy, I rode a 350 Honda. Several of my VFW and American Legion comrades ride Harleys and Honda touring bikes. I have set a goal that by my 62nd birthday I'll have either a Harley or a Honda GoldWing trike.

goldwing, i think, is more like to car, than really a motorcycle.
i in my young years -about from 14 to 18 years - ride with old soviet two-stroker - two cylinder 350cc iz-jupiter 2, made, if i remember correctly, in 1967.


after many years i now purchase and ride with old yamaha 600cc sport touring.
choose sport touring, because, from one side it is very close on class to that old, utilitary motorcycles from past, and from another - there is good combination of utilitar motorcycle, and fast, powerful bike.

yes, rain is no good - especially when it was not very-very light rain, like fog.
and cold too not good -if temperature is bellow 10 celsium, it be very cold during riding, even in warm dressed.

btw, what is your fueal consumption?

in average - 4.3 - 4.4 litres per 100 km. not that good, as i want to be.
but most impressive i use motorcycle in city - it is fantastic. like you go in past in time machine -practically none rush hours, and always can find parking...;)

statistically that ( left turn from front thread) is one of most collision cause with motorcycles. that same reason years ago, even destroyed my "sportscar for poors" - ford escort rs turbo s2, by women.
in general, motorcycle is, without doubt, far more chances to get in accident, and when get -far more chances to injury, if comparable with car.
from another point - motorcycle riding is more objective indicator for your skills and road situation analyzation and prediction.
i often turn on youtube, enter "motorcycle" or "bike", "accident", and see huge lists of that. can be learn from most situations, what not to do and so on.

My Harley Davidson XR1200X gets about 45 miles per gallon, which equates to about 19.1 kilometers per liter, which is about 5.2 liters per 100 km.

When I was in Europe, I had a motorcycle suit made by Iota (Italian, I think) that kept me dry and warm in most conditions. I didn't ride if there was ice on the road.

Yes, with a motorcycle, it's easy to get around anywhere, and parking is almost never a problem.

better, than i expect from 1200cc, but still high. some cars consume comparable ammount of fuel on highway, and his is far more weighty. on those days, when fuel cost is around 2 USD for litre, it is important.
i too not ride when icy ( on motorcycle) because it is a heavy. if i get light 125cc, maybe sometimes, when all road not in ice, i be ride also in winter.
now i ride on bicycle everyday to work - about 7 - 9 kilometres in day, also mostly in winter too ( when temperature is above -10 or -15 celsium).
one time thinking about legendary FJ1200, but its fueal sonsumption starts at about 5.5 - 6 litres, who is comparable with car. costly.
also thinking about economically 4takt 125cc - read, some 125cc hondas can go in 2 litres per 100km ! it is very cool. i do some "economically riding" experiments with my 600cc last summer, and even mostly driving on highway in slow speed ( about 70 kmh, 6th gear) with slow accelerations and avoid braking - gives me only a tad bellow 4 litres to 100 km. in "normal driving" it consumes about 4.2 - 4.3 litres. very small improvements, and not worth it, imho. in general, i in any way love to drive around 70 - 80 kmh, because faster wind start to blow strong, and i not love to...in slow speed i feel more peaciful, can see views, and so on. as say good russian proverb - кто понял жизнь, тот не спешит. - in my bad translation something like "who knows life, that dont hurry" :)
