Updated BOINC and now the screensaver does not work. It cycles (less than one second "on") and then "off". WIN7PRO and Hp Envy17. SETI. Not computer literate SeniorCitizen. Any help most appreciated.

It is known and the BOINC developers are looking into it. It's not an easy thing to solve, though, as they haven't got a clue what's causing it. There have been no code changes to any parts of the screen saver between BOINC 7.2.28 (7.2.33 is 7.2.28 with one change)(in which it does work) and 7.2.39 (in which it doesn't work).

A hotfix should be coming sometime next week, after the mysterious HTC release.
So until that time, either return to 7.2.33, or turn the BOINC screen saver off.

Just to add to the information for developers:

Experiencing the same problem. Worked on prior BOINC versions.
DID update my graphics driver from a December to most recent AMD drivers as per a forum suggestion. No joy.

Hello, I'm new at this.

I don't see anything happening in the FREQUENCY-TIME-POWER GRAPH on my screensaver. It's been grinding away for 5 hours and is 33% done on the first batch of data. Is there something I need to turn on or do I just have to be patient until it's done?

Hi Scott, please read the second reply in this thread. It's a known issue and hopefully whenever they figure out the problem they will send a patch out, till then all we can do is hope for the best. As a side note, I haven't seen a graph in a long time but that is due to the altered program I am running. What I do see is just a status update. As long as you are processing work that is the important thing. The graph is just a cute interface they have for people to look at.

Sorry Scott, just looked at your system. You are using the GPU built into the chip of your computer to process correct? You won't see a graph since the GPU can't both crunch and display a graph, it's one or the other. So good news, you can crunch the data, bad news..you don't get to see the graph. But since the main point is crunching you know you are doing the work. I hope this will not prevent you from continuing to participate in Seti. Oh and Welcome to Seti@home

No, it's not that either. If you read his post, you see that he does see a graphic, just nothing in the FREQUENCY-TIME-POWER graph part of it. That is because of a problem with the OpenGL drivers of his Intel HD GPU. There are plenty more people with that problem.

Seeing however how people with an AMD and Nvidia GPU see the whole graphic when running the exact same graphics application, it isn't a problem with the graphics application, but then with the hardware used or its drivers. In this case, that of the Intel GPU, and thus its OpenGL drivers. No fix for that yet, that I know of. And if everyone who has the problem just sits by and never lets Intel know of this problem, there won't be a fix for it soon either.

CAL, CUDA and OpenCL are perfectly well capable of showing graphics at the same time as doing the graphics. The 2D graphics aren't in any danger, you're not all of a sudden seeing a black screen when doing calculations on the videocard's GPU, do you? Same for 3D graphics, perfectly well possible to do those at the same time as doing the calculations.

Which is why you can run the 3D project screen saver running on a CPU task at the same time.
Which is why you can run the Einstein screen saver on tasks running on the GPU.

Correct. It's ironic the graphic doesn't display given the GPU is designed for accelerating scientific applications.
