Hi everyone, its been forever since I posted. I was wondering if anyone knew of any boinc projects that are bound by I/O? I am working on notably the fastest storage on earth and wondered if there was something I can use to contribute and put this storage through its paces. thanks |

I'm not aware of any projects that rely on fast storage access, but out of curiosity, what is the notably fastest storage on earth you're working with? He is going to be glad you asked. |

Well SSD comes to mind.. but beyond that, probably the only thing faster than that would be RAM, and HyperDrive5 is the only decent one that I know of that does that sort of thing. Three downsides to it though: SATA-II, but for some reason only manages ~175MB/sec (which is more like SATA-I speeds), the cost of DDR2..or any kind of RAM in large DIMM sizes (4GB isn't bad, but 8 and the very rare 16 are astronomical), and the third is the price. I would be very interested in finding out more about this fastest storage on earth, even more so if it is RAM-based and uses DDR3 and SATA-III (6.0gbit) and can saturate a SATA-III channel. Spoiler Alert Well you could click on his name, then see his listed website and that would tell the tale...... Sorry if I am giving anything away. SETI@home classic workunits 4,019 SETI@home classic CPU time 34,348 hours |

Spoiler Alert That is why I said the OP is glad someone asked. He obviously has a financial interest in this. |

I didn't bother to investigate that far. So... it's a bunch of SSDs in a RAID configuration, with a fancy logo on it and a massive pricetag. Got it. Linux laptop: record uptime: 1511d 20h 19m (ended due to the power brick giving-up) |

Really the only thing around here that stresses disk i/o is the server setup & that runs on an external storage enclosure with, I think, FibreChannel. SETI@home classic workunits: 93,865 CPU time: 863,447 hours Join the [url=http://tinyurl.com/8y46zvu]BP6/VP6 User Group[ |
