I noticed one of my laptops was running slowly and noticed that the program was running always, despite having the preferences set to run only after a few minutes of inactivity. I can manually stop it but when the "run based on preferences" is highlighted, the project runs continuously. Other computers are running correctly and are set up in the same fashion as this troublesome one.
I wanted to put this in a Q&A area, but didn't see one. Thanks for any and all help!

Is the machine that is not obeying the preferences running on local preferences vs. the rest running on online preferences?

I'm not certain about the local VS network preferences, but all systems are pretty much the same setup...the SETI client running on a home or work PC, connected via a private wireless network. I should have c/p the config file...perhaps after work hours. The systems are set up with 99%+ of the settings being the defaults. The only difference is the time delay between resuming SETI when the computer is idle...1 minute for working systems, 3 minutes for the troublesome computer. FWIW, this is the only computer running Windoze 7.
One other unusual thing that brought this to my attention in the first place...the SETI taskbar icon, next to the default location of the Windows clock (Bottom Right corner), appeared yesterday. It had not been visable prior to this, although it might have been "hidden" by windows as I hadn't had the need to run the SETI program manually.
If nothing fixes this, I will probably just re-load the program as a fresh install, since I will only lose the current two worksets. I'm stumped, but this isn't the first time! Thanks for the reply and the ideas.

Check that a little program called boinctray.exe is allowed to run and running on that machine. Despite its name, this program doesn't make an icon in the (system)(clock)tray, but is the idle detection program. If it isn't running, BOINC won't be able to detect on Windows Vista and above whether or not the computer is idle.

The whole background program is called BOINC, by the way. It is the managing program. The icon you'll see is that of BOINC Manager. Seti@Home is only one of 55+ projects that can run under BOINC.
