Figure skating - team event. From mid-afternoon onwards the team figure skating event concludes with the free skates: first the men, then the women, and the ice dancers' free dance to finish. Canada, Russia and the United States were the leading nations to qualify for this event, but the US struggled on the team event's opening day while Russia, buoyed by the return of Evgeni Plushenko, stormed into first place.

Britain were eliminated from the contest at the halfway mark on Saturday, finishing 10th when only the top five nations go through to the free skates.

I saw the opening ceremony on friday. Probably one of the best presentations I've seen yet, even though the torch lighting was kinda anti-climatic.

I'll turn on the curling when I wake up tomorrow, if I remember. Not much else interests me.

I can't get into curling when it is played indoors and there is no booze involved. Just doesn't seem right.

Is it televised any other time than the Olympics?

U.S. men lost their first game too.

Hey, all you various European residents, how much do they show live over there? I'm actually surprised at how much we're getting live, albeit in the middle of the night. Once again tomorrow, I can wake up to women's curling, or watch the men at 2am if I can't sleep. Then the same events will be shown again 12 hours later.

My State TV, RAI, only shows a summary at 23.45 when I am asleep. There is however Cielo a Sky free digital channel, which broadcasts almost everything and does not cost anything, except watching the commercials. Shame on RAI, which costs 115 euro/year. Many people don't pay, even if you own any TV set you should pay by law.Sky has many other channels on satellite, as pay per view.

BBC2 has the Olympics on live from 7am to 12pm each day.

And the US men lost their second game too. Not sure about the women; I wasn't up at 2am.

If you have the right cable package here in Canada, you can get several hours of live curling a day during the winter, and replays of the really exciting games all year round.

That's not surprising. However, I don't have the pleasure(?) of living in Canada.

During the US-China match today, they were commenting that China has only been in the sport for a few years and only has about 100 curlers. But in typical communist style, curling is all they do. No regular jobs to distract them from curling practice. And they spend a LOT of time in Canada where there are decent teams to compete against.

I need to stop watching the curling. The only match the US has won, either men or women, is one of the two I didn't see any of.

Yeah. We get gold in all kinds of stuff (although other countries have more than we do). Just not anything I care about.
