Hi, I've been bothering with BOINC and my video card for some time now. I've scoped forums for similar problems, tested solutions - none worked for me yet.

The problem: Application AstroPulse v6 6.08 (cal_ati) restarts after ca 50 seconds. The progress bar stays at 0.000% (there was 0.033% or something once). Every restart generates certain message in Event log:
2/8/2014 11:35:03 PM | SETI@home | Task ap_03jl13ad_B3_P0_00094_20140208_02094.wu_1 exited with zero status but no 'finished' file
2/8/2014 11:35:03 PM | SETI@home | If this happens repeatedly you may need to reset the project.
2/8/2014 11:35:03 PM | SETI@home | Restarting task ap_03jl13ad_B3_P0_00094_20140208_02094.wu_1 using astropulse_v6 version 608 (cal_ati) in slot 2

Restarting project haven't solved the problem. GPU-Z shows almost no load on GPU (some spikes only) during this 50 sec run. After some retries (could be 100 or so), the progress bar goes to 100% with "Computation error" label. Sample workunit:
http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/result.php?resultid=3377419246
According to the suggestion from several posts I've tried experiment with CPU load options in BOINC preferences - many combinations gave no result at all.

My history (http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/beta/results.php?hostid=52734&offset=0&show_names=0&state=4&appid=14) of AstroPulse v6 tasks shows some completed workunits in the past (but with older AstroPulse 6.06/6.05, Catalyst 13.1 and older BOINC).

Hope I can still make use of my GPU.

PS. Some system/BOINC configuration below:

The graphic card is Mobility Radeon HD 3650 on my Toshiba Satellite A350-10B notebook.

I have the newest driver installed (Legacy Catalyst 13.9, October 2013); package contains (copy from ATI official website http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop/legacy?product=legacy2&os=Windows%207%20-%2064):

I believe that you need at least a Radeon 4xxx to run SETI on and if anyone ever got a GPU similar to yours to work I'm sure that they'll show up, but I bet that they would've had to jump through hoops to get it to work (my 3850's were never supported when I had them).

Cheers.

Legacy Catalyst 13.9 OpenCL(tm) Driver 10.0.937.2

So...Legacy Catalyst 13.9 has the same problem as the Legacy Catalyst 13.1 driver with cal_ati. I suspected as much. Many people have the same results with the Legacy Driver and CAL App. All you need to do is revert back to Catalyst 12.1 and it will probably work. It worked with my 3650. Since you have Win 7, you might be able to use 12.2 or 12.3, not sure, I didn't test the CAL App with Win 7. Use the 13.9 Uninstaller in the Custom Mode to remove all of 13.9, including OpenCL, then restart and install 12.1. Check to make sure OpenCL is reporting version 851.4 verses 937.2, otherwise you will need to run some other driver cleaner to remove 937.2. There's a newer driver cleaner here, Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) V12.1 (Released 02-08-14), seems to work well on AMD drivers.

Thanks for quick response, I'll surely give it a try, but still - it worked ~half year ago with Catalyst 13.1 and a bit older AstroPulse I'm using today.

The Legacy Driver works fine with the Regular AstroPulse App. It's the CAL_ATI App that has the problems. Most of them end up as this one;

OK, here is the news. Looks like there is some partial (at least) success.

TBar,

Catalyst 12.1: I didn't manage to install 12.1 on my Windows 7. Used DDU, as You suggested, but Windows automatically installed Microsoft driver which somehow conflicted with the one in 12.1 (DDU was supposed to block that, but it didn't) - installing drivers in old Toshibas can be really irritating.

Catalyst 9.7 (this gives CAL 1.4.344): I came up with an idea to try this version, as ATI Stream SDK 1.4 beta (the only SDK still available from AMD website supporting HD 3650, I think) has official support for it. I thought the runtime can be more stable. And: AstroPulse finally kicked off. Driver crashes randomly (with Windows 7 pop up "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered"), sometimes the task must be suspended and resumed to go on, but still - the job is already at ~30%. I will wait till it finishes and gets validated, before experimenting with other drivers. I'll post the results.

Thanks for help.

P.S. I've provided wrong log (messed up with the links); I don't have the proof cal_ati version of AstroPulse ever gave validated results on my machine. Sorry for misleading. It is possible, that CAL 1.4.1734 never worked at all. Still - You've provided good tip: CAL 1.4.515 could work. I think that's Catalyst 9.12 (as 10.1 beta used 1.4.519 already).

There were several screen blackouts, driver restarts and I had to manually pause/resume task one or two times, but finally got the results. Two workunits are done by now, one already validated. Looks like following configuration worked:

Graphic card: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650
Drivers: Catalyst 9.7 for Windows 7 x64 (CAL 1.4.344)

I'll try newer drivers (to see application gets more stable), I'll put the results here. Now I'm waiting for further AstroPulse workunits.

I've checked Catalyst 9.12 (CAL 1.4.515). Few workunits got already validated; the application AstroPulse v6 6.08 (cal_ati) looks much more stable on this driver.
