Hi everyone

This is going to be hard to write and I'm not sure where to start.

My mom's name was Shannon but everybody here knew her as Mackenzie or Kenzie. I have to tell you that my mom died on January 12. She had got stomache cancer in January last year. At first the treatments seemed to go good but then in June it was in her pancreas and then it was in her liver. In November it was in her brain and then she and the doctor decided not to do any more treatment and she went into palative care on December 2.

She talked a lot about this place and she had asked me to start up her account and contact you and tell you what happened. It took me awhile to figure out how to make the account here work. Sorry for taking so long.

Not sure what else to say but I'll check the account every day for the next while and try to answer any questions u might have.

I'm very sad to hear about this news. "KenzieB" was a former Volunteer Moderator and was an excellent member of our team. She will be greatly missed.

Thank you so much for sharing this with us Allie. Your mom was a valued member of our forums, and the loss will be great. Take care and know that our thoughts are with you.

I'm so incredibly sad, and surprised! Allie, my very deepest condolences to you and your family. It appears that her other friend that you won't be hearing from, because John Clark passed not long ago last November 10th. She's in some fine company.

KenzieB was a special part of all of us. She was one of the strongest, and most private person I've ever known. I don't know a single person that knew her real name, including myself. Heck... I never even knew she had a daughter!

She'd never back down from anyone. And no one messed with our KenzieB, without knowing she'd be right in their face about it. She's in a class of her own.

I'm still in shock, and so sad that it happened. :-(

Thank you from all of us for delivering this sad message. I think we can speak for everyone that we'd love to have you stay with us here.

Hi everyone.

Thank you so much for your kind words. I think mom would have been overwhelmed by it all. I am not really emotionly connected here but still feel a little woozy by teh response.

Just a few notifications:

to Seti-Forums:
Mom talked about her time as a moderator here. She called it her 'best of times, worst of times'. I had to google it and I haven't read Dicknes but I think I understand the feeling.

to Dan
I don't understand poetry, but mom did and she loved yours.

To Julie (and Uli and Angela) Mom referred to you three as her “sisters-in-arms.” You could hear the quotation marks when she said it.

To Bernie Vine:
I took that picture. Lovin' it. !!!

To Chris S.
She talked about you a lot and i think she was a little bit in love with you.

To Dune Finkleberry
Oh, she warned me about you! HaHa. I don't think that she was in love with you but she had a really big crush on you. I think if she had the chance shed have done some pretty nasty things with you.

To Chandorchasma
Your local cancer society seems best.

Some stuff about mom because people have been asking:

Born June 21, 1978 in Campbellton New Brunswick Canada.

Married once to a psycholigical abusive ass. Divorced him in 2004 and moved to Vancovuer. But he was a stalker guy so she changed her name, etc. Shannon was her real name. Mackenzie was her stage name.

She was in a car accident in 2005 that made even the simplist of things hard for her. She was always uncomfortable about her looks because of it no matter how much everyone said the scars were gone. I guess they were mostly inside.

She was a musician, a graduate of the Royal Ontario Conservatory and on her way to a career as a concernt guitarist before the husband and accident got in the way. In the last couple years she regained her confidence in ,music and did a lot of recording work for local artists. She even had been doing some composing of her own and I'll post some of that stuff if I can figure out how to post mp3 files here.

She loved boats and everything about them.

I wasn't actually her daughter but her niece. I came to live with her a couple years ago because of some issues my bioloigical units were having and she eventually adoped me. I never called her 'mom' just 'Sha' like everyone else did but I wish I had called her mom because I think she would have liked that.

Thanks Allie. You gave me a chuckle in spite of my sadness.

I guess Kenzie (Shannon) would rather have it that way. :-)

This is going to be hard to write and I'm not sure where to start.

And it was extremely hard to read, too. Thank you, Allie, for letting us know. Can you please post a link to her obituary, if there is one?

I, too, had been wondering, as it had been some time since we'd heard from Kenzie. She had been very sparing with her story, your notes on your Profile page help fill in some gaps. And the picture - she was a fine-looking Lady.

Kenzie was a woman of many talents. She was a valued member not just of the Forums team, but of the Seti@Home community. We enjoyed her presence and valued her friendship.

There is an empty place in our lives which she once filled. The ragged edges will heal in time, but none will ever fill that space again. But having touched our lives, we all carry a part of her with us, in our hearts, and in our memories. We pray she is in a better place now, where there is no pain or illness, no suffering or sorrow. And that when our time comes, we will join her and all our departed loved ones. Until then, this old sailor bids her Fair Winds and Following Seas.

And Allie, your presence here will help us remember her. I know this is a difficult time for you. It will be 7 years in April since my Mother died of cancer, but sometimes it seems like yeterday. Many of us here have been through similar tragic events. If we can be of help or service to you, just ask.

Addendum] You posted while I was composing this - thanks for the added info, it explains much. And I remember when she told us she had taken you in. I think she posted some pictures of you, too.

I have an obligation to attend to, but later tonight I will visit Callaghan's Fireplace in Rocky's Cafe, and pay a proper tribute to Shannon/Kenzie.
