No problem Mark.

This has several names, depending on what side of the Pond you are on, so I'll need a brief description of who uses it, or what it is used for, for a win.

A file for sharpening shark teeth :D

Looks like some kind of finishing trowel.
Is it used for finishing castable material ?

For picking old mortar out from between bricks before replacing it?

Not used by masons. (Unless that term is used very differently in some places. To me, a mason works with bricks. Anybody use that term differently?)

Not for shark teeth.

Not used with castable material. First hint - at least not used with material cast by humans.

For cutting honey combs loose?

Chris has it, although j mercer was headed in the right direction. PM on the way.

I've seen it called a slater's axe, a sax, and a jax. The pointy bit allows you to carve a nail hole in the slate, the opposite edge can be used to break the slate to shape after you score it with the pointy bit.

Concerning my hint, slate is a metamorphic rock, which means it is sort of cast from mud, under high pressure and relatively low temperatures for long periods of time. John McLeod's connection of this to bee's wax is very interesting. I woldn't have thought of that, but it is perfectly valid.
