Okay, as requested - a new thread with the same rules as before

1. The previous winner posts a picture of some sort of strange-looking tool.
2. Other people guess what it is. The poster tells them if they're right or wrong, with any other comments he/she sees fit.
3. After no new guesses have been made for a couple of days, the poster should provide a hint.
4. If there is still no correct answer given, the poster may declare the panel stumped, give the answer, and post another picture.
5. Whoever posts the correct answer is the winner and posts the next tool. Go back to 1.

I'll start in a separate post.

If I recall correctly, it is called a froe, and it is for striking wookdowking chisels and knives.

Nope to both...not for hitting chisels or knives...it is not a hammer nor a froe.

OK a wooden mallet then.

It looks a lot like this one:

Which is a wood carving mallet used for driving chisels.

Yes, that one probably does exactly as you say, but the one I posted doesn't. It is not associated with the woodworking craft.

Not used in sewing...good guess though!

Hint time: tamping is one function of this mallet.

Okay another hint: a secondary defense of the order Octopoda is associated with this mallet.
