I imagine any civilization capable of traversing the stars already know we are here. Whether they can or will contact us is the question I guess.

If they have any human DNA in them, we would've been exterminated already...

You've got that right! If we are lucky we don't have any close neighbors.

That's the point Lynn! They haven't contacted us in a physical way, because maybe the laws of Universe don't allow it.
Humanities has another point of view, or other dimensions or what the hell you wanna call it. Anyway, there hasn't been evidence yet, clear evidence that is.

That would violate the "prime directive".

I can then say to our local JW's NOW will you stop banging on my door!

But then the Mormons would say I told you so.

The Mormons believe there are many worlds and they each get their own planet when they die. So proof of ET won't stop evangelizing.

As I have grown older it has become mildly depressing to come to the realization that contact with any aliens intelligent or otherwise is not very likely in my lifetime or for that matter the next few hundred years, if that soon. Star Trek originally aired when I was in high school and 2001 a Space Odyssey a year or two later. I never expected anything like Star Trek to happen in my lifetime but I was hoping we would have been back to the moon by now as well as exploring the rest of the solar system up close and personal. But mankind tends to be motivated by need or greed more than anything else. So, until there is a real need for us to leave the planet or a means to become ungodly wealthy by travelling in space is found most of us are stuck here on mother earth. Which by the way isn't such a bad thing.

I'm still hopeful that we will find evidence of life on Mars or Europa in my life time. I doubt there will be any womenned missions though.

There are many ways to have contact with 'aliens' Wasn't Stephen Hawking telling about all the dimensions in the Universe? He did have to review that number IIRC

Here is some information about the best way to transmit radio signals to other worlds:

We are already producing the best signal, heat. On the SETI webcast http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=74371
I learned that they are building telescopes that will look for heat patterns called "bio markers" so no gravity wave communication reception necessary.

Not really. Biomarkers aren't heat signals, they are some gases in the atmosphere of the exoplanet that (some) scientists think indicate the presence of life (oxygen, ozone, etc.). Biomarkers are detected by spectrography, and they are very difficult to see (very faint). They require big space telescopes (like JWST or bigger) or really good ground telescopes/spectrographs (E-ELT/CODEX).

Heat can be detected more easily and can indicate a technological civilization, instead of life (a Dyson sphere and the like).
