They must to do something very interesting to see how they manage to keep the TDP on the 300W range. Since a single 780 is actualy reaching 250W. The cooling system must be amazing too. Let´s wait to see.

One important thing to see too is if they manage to draw the entire power from the VGA power conectors only (not using power form the PCI-e slot) as the rest of the GTXs, so we could build multi GPu´s hosts and if they manage to use 3 conectors like the newer top models or remains with 2.

With this kind of "beasts" we could expect to see a 200K cruncher very soon. Imagine what a 4x790 could do...

The kitties wanz.
The only way to get more power into the kitty crunching farm, as I have all slots loaded.

Could you imagine all 19 slots loaded with a 790???
Well, I can dreamz, can't I?
I still miss my old 295's.

If I had a steady supply of GPU AP WU I could crunch 360,000 with 4 690's 8 GPUs. Of course I would have to keep it going 24/7 with no down time or times of no work.

You are a little optimistic, a 690 produce about 60k/day but even on this case about 250k/day is impressive.

Now imagine 4x790, with about 80K/day each... or even more when Jason could put his dirty hands on one an unleash its daemons.... we are talking in a 350K or more cruncher, bigger than my entire farm on a single cruncher.

I realy going to put some in my christmas wishes list with some x79 MB to feed them.

For now we could only dream.

I´m sure the kitties will be excited to have some on their company too. If i win the lottery who knows...

My 360,000 number is a perfect world number. Last week when AP GPU WU were plentiful I got to crunch only them for about a day. They were all exactly the same size and took the same time to crunched and gave the same credit so it was easy to figure what three months of crunching would give.

I had on OMG upward RAC line for that day.
They must to do something very interesting to see how they manage to keep the TDP on the 300W range.

They did the same thing like they did with the 690. The 690 uses 2 retarded 680 chips to keep the TDP at 300W; 300W is the magic number for consumer GPUs. Over that and it would require custom power supplies.

A 690 running 2 AP at a time crunch a WU in about 1 hr and produces 600-700 credit per WU, in 24 hours if you do the math it could produce about 60K so a 4 690 crucnher will reach about 250K of RAC in an allmost perfect world.

I didn't save my calculation but I was crunching 16 at a time 2 on each GPU or 4 per 690. It took longer than ah hour per WU though.

That´s exactly how most of us running 4 WU at a time on each 690, on this configurations takes about 1 hr to crunch a AP WU so 4x650(credits) means 2600 credits per hour per 690 or about 62K per day.

Since you have 4 running on your "baby monster" (sure an incredible machine, you must post a photo for us) that why i said 250K per day, an incredible mark BTW, if you look arround and you run it 24/7 for few months you sure will fight for title of top #1 cruncher host in our SETI universe.

It is not that impressive, no bling just the bare necessities. It is not unlike a fully loaded sports car with everything ripped out including radio, seats and sound proofing to save weight to cut quarter mile time.

Upon further review I meant 260,000 RAC; I must have been using a metric calculator to get 360,000.

Any way it´s a 1/4 million RAC machine, realy an impressive mark. It can produce about 10K credits per hour, more than most of the hosts could produce in an entire day. Congrats for that.

As you said you use a single PSU I just imagine the capacity of the one you are actualy ussing to drive this baby.

The heat? I see the big external fan you use in the photo. It´s incredible how the basic solution (use an external big fan) is allways the best to handle the heat.

The electric power bill? Sure you need an special conection to drive this, let´s say, close to 2 KW electric black hole, sure your electric company love it. But forget that, let´s talk about good things.

Becareful what you wish, if i win the lottery, i will send a boat with 20 of them to the kitties and i will go personaly to see them working, it´s a promise.

Until then let´s dream, at daily mark of 75K with 20 hungry slots you could easely reach 1.5MM/Day just on the GPU´s, but with that mark, who needs CPU crunching?... i´m sure the kitties will love that.

On the other hand 20x300W you will need a small electric power plant to power them and crunching about 80AP WU per Hr requires a very fast conection from COLO to the kitties farm to feed their hungry, about 360MB/Hr just to DL the WU´s.

Yes computer power, specialy on the GPU side rises exponentialy, soon we will see a 100K/Daily production GPU.

I didn't win the lottery in the traditional sense but found a great deal on gently used 690s. Someone in Utah built a super computer with 100 or so 690s. The story was they wanted to "take our operation to the next level". I think it might have been a coin mining group who made the mistake of buying NVIDIA instead of ATI GPUs.

The cards were advertised as being used for six months in a professional computing environment. I took a chance and bought one; no box, accessories or warranties but it arrived spotless and well tested. I bought three more just in time before word got out and he raised his prices; they were gone a month later.

The coin mining community is driving up prices on high end AMD GPUs which in turn lets NVIDIA not have to compete on price in the retail market. Happy hunting.
