No problems here and both the SSP and Cricket graphs are fine.

Have you rebooted your modem?

Cheers.

I'm on line now; it has to be the server, I formatted C and got the same thing the first download freezes.

I have another machine off the same router downloading just fine.

I can only think that the problem must be just with that rig then as if it was the servers then the "Panic Mode On" thread would be buzzing.

Cheers.

You could try this trick, http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=71002&postid=1343415, and see if that helps you.

Cheers.

I have another machine off the same router downloading just fine.

Which shows that it isn't the server, then. If another one of your computers on the same network can download without problems, and your freshly formatted machine cannot, it's a problem with your freshly formatted machine. I take it that you installed an OS on it after formatting? And that you set up the network and firewall in that OS correctly?

When doing CTRL+SHIFT+E in BOINC Manager, what does it say when the download stalls? Post those messages, please.

I'm posting from the machine I post therefore I am. I am cold too; "polar vortex" and no heat. :-(

1/19/2014 9:44:11 AM | SETI@home | Scheduler request failed: Couldn't resolve host name

Mind, this error has nothing to do with your computer name, or the hostID it gets at Seti. This is a TCP/IP error that means that you do not have the entry for the server you are trying to connect to --in this case the Seti server-- in your hosts file or TCP/IP network configuration (ipconfig).

Now, the Seti server you're trying to connect to through BOINC is NOT the same server as we're posting on, so it will not have IP address 169.229.217.150 and therefore you cannot say that since you can post here, that your machine does not have problems connecting to Seti.

So, time to see what BOINC makes of it. Let's make a cc_config.xml file, if you don't have one yet. Open Notepad and type/copy into it:
<cc_config>
<log_flags>
<http_debug>1</http_debug>
<http_xfer_debug>1</http_xfer_debug>
</log_flags>
</cc_config>

Save as...
Save as type: All Files
file name cc_config.xml
format: ANSI
Save to C:\Programdata\BOINC\
(double check in the directory that the extension is only .xml, not .xml.txt)
(The directory will be hidden. Either navigate to it directly by filling in the path in Windows Explorer, or tell Windows to show hidden files and folders.)

Next open BOINC Manager->Advanced view->Advanced->Read config files.
Then open Event Log (CTRL+SHIFT+E) and copy and paste (post) the whole communication, including any IP addresses it resolves.

'Couldn't resolve host name' is a network connection problem on your end, I believe.
I get that when my router throws a wobbly and my XP rigs can't get reconnected to it without rebooting them.

All looks normal, except those early DNS lookup failures:

1/19/2014 11:29:13 AM | SETI@home | [http] HTTP_OP::init_get(): http://boinc2.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah/download_fanout/390/21oc13ac.26736.54158.438086664207.12.137
1/19/2014 11:29:13 AM | SETI@home | Started download of 21oc13ac.26736.54158.438086664207.12.137
1/19/2014 11:29:13 AM | SETI@home | [http] [ID#2] Info: Could not resolve host: (nil); Host not found
1/19/2014 11:29:13 AM | SETI@home | [http] [ID#2] Info: Closing connection #0

Later on, the same thing worked properly:

1/19/2014 11:29:17 AM | SETI@home | [http] HTTP_OP::init_get(): http://boinc2.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah/download_fanout/23b/21oc13ac.26736.54158.438086664207.12.240

DNS found the notice server (this web server) OK at the second attempt:

1/19/2014 11:29:13 AM | | [http] HTTP_OP::init_get(): http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/notices.php?userid=77803&auth=77803_8fadee86540409dd65b3f2e69c3c307b

1/19/2014 11:31:20 AM | | [http] [ID#0] Info: Trying 169.229.217.150...

and likewise the scheduler:

1/19/2014 11:31:23 AM | SETI@home | Sending scheduler request: Requested by user.
1/19/2014 11:31:23 AM | SETI@home | [http] HTTP_OP::init_post(): http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/cgi
1/19/2014 11:31:27 AM | SETI@home | [http] [ID#1] Info: About to connect() to setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu port 80 (#3)
1/19/2014 11:31:27 AM | SETI@home | [http] [ID#1] Info: Trying 208.68.240.20...

But then, the first download connection hit a snag:

1/19/2014 11:29:22 AM | | [http_xfer] [ID#13] HTTP: wrote 1436 bytes
1/19/2014 11:34:27 AM | SETI@home | [http] [ID#13] Info: Operation too slow. Less than 10 bytes/sec transferred the last 300 seconds
1/19/2014 11:34:27 AM | SETI@home | [http] [ID#13] Info: Closing connection #0

(note the five minute pause). You definitely have networking problems: when you re-installed the operating system, are you sure you loaded the right network card driver?

Everything works except SETI download. My machine shows it contacted the server and the server also shows it was contacted. This is the same thing I was getting before I formatted C. I can reset the project and the server complies showing 0 WU in progress. Then when I update I get a bunch of downloads but the first one dies after a few bites and the server shows 100 WUs in progress.

The downloads got suck when I suspended some tasks on the old HD but now everything is new but something is stuck

I had similar problems after deleting Win 7 Beta/RC and reformatting/installing win 7.

Win 7 detected the network card and assigned 192.168.1.2 to that host which conflicted with another host with the same IP address.

I eventually got around the networking issues by assigning all hosts on my network static IP addresses and reserving them via the routers DHCP. This was made easy due to the individual host names.

On doing a fresh install of my main workstation, it was assigned .1.15 which I knew was my network printer, so reassigned to the same static address as previously.

On reinstalling boinc, got sent all the lost tasks.

I see you're using Win 8.1. Is it possible that the O/S is assigning IP address automatically with your router also acting as a DHCP server?

Three "maybe stupid" "or" sugestions:

1 - ipconfig /flushdns

2 - Look if something corrupt or add the wrong adress to the file hosts.txt

C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc - file location on Windows 7 for example

3 - Disable your AV/Firewall and try

My guess, your hosts goes to the wrong place when try to comunicate with the SETI servers, in theory the #1 or 2 could correct that.

Of course, i assume your host has the right ethernet driver and a unique IP in you network, if not fix that first.

If Windows is assigning IPv4 addresses automatically, it will be choosing them from the 169.254.0.0/16 Link-local subnet as endorsed by RFC 3927 - see Wikipedia IPv4.

Addresses in the 192.168.0.0 class C private network range will have been assigned by some other DHCP server. I expect (and configure) my router to perform that role - not having a dedicated server at the moment - but I find that too many other devices want to take the role too, even a humble one-disk network backup drive. You need to be careful that there is precisely one DHCP server active per local subnet, otherwise things like that happen.

ipconfig /all

will give you the IP address of the DHCP server that gave your network adapter the unexpected class C private address - then you just have to work out what device answers to that address.

I thank all of you for the replays. The problem is with my LAN IP; why it only affects SETI and why in the middle of a download is a question for another time.
